I have usually encountered shadow entities (large black humanoid silhouettes) in the dimensions closest to the physical world, more so in my earlier travels, as I usually don't project to these lower dimensions anymore. Many times one of them would be waiting for me as I left my body. I learned to ignore them, as they initially would invoke a fear response within me that thwarted some of my first attempts at OBE. Later in my travels, I was once approached by a small group of them in what I believe was the astral. One of them touched my arm and an immense surge of blissful energy exploded through my entire energy body! It was so intense that I experienced this energy on many different levels of my self simultaneously (difficult to explain, more something that has to be experienced to understand). It's hard to say what the true nature of these beings is. Could they be manifestations of one's fears? Could they be independent sentient beings with intelligence and purpose? Sure, why not? I've never communicated directly with one that I know of, although I have communicated with unknown beings while in sleep paralysis and in other deeply altered states of consciousness while still "in" my body, so who knows.

No african american. Blackest black human is not black enough. Those are as black as jet carbon, and everything on them is just as black. Eyes too. Black naked genderless bodies filling the darkness sliding on each other as they are moving. They look a little oiled because light of my aura is reflected a little. My aura is seldom white or silvery, I have mostly blueviolet aura.
You are maybe true that they are localized to lower reaches of astral... I have never seen them in higher level of astral and I haven't observed them in mental dimension. I used to light my paths by my aura because I have mostly dark surroundings while in OBE and those black bodies are trying to move beyond the reach of the light. I tried to come closer to them, but they run... every time they run away. When I think about it now, why they run? If they are impersonation of some fears? If they are independent astral based beings then I can understand that. Maybe they are nocturnal... When I remember some of my experiences, they try to clear my immediate vicinity, but sometimes I feel something like light brushes from the dark when I didn't have ignited my aura yet. It feels normal... no rush of energy, no emotions... simple brushes. They feel cold for me.. I wasn't able to communicate with them. But I was able to feel their emotions... some felt malicious, some neutral... They are communicating between themselves constantly... it was like permanent chatter. I felt their fear of my aura...
I think I understand dark clouds more. It looks like they are trying to surround people. Affected people look like without energy when they have such encounters. The dark cloud materializes from point of darkness closeby to sleeping people usually... then that point grows like cloud but much faster to about 1-2 m size... If I'm close to person which is targeted I can guard that person... dark cloud usually makes a few tries to go to its target before it collapses into itself and vanishes. Again it wasn't possible to communicate with this phenomenons(beings? ), but every time I felt malicious intents out of dark clouds. I experienced dark clouds in higher levels of astral, it seems like they are more unstable there than in lower levels.
