      rant about magic

There's the saying, attributed to Arthur C. Clarke, that 'any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic'. It occurred to me recently that this is because people tend to think about magic as if it were an advanced form of technology. Magic is thought of as something that a person wields, like a tool. Magical people do things like shoot lightning bolts from a wand. I think that real magic is usually not so much like that, not so defined or easily controlled. And it doesn't depend so much on potions or incantations, it flows from who you are. Less like Harry Potter and more like Carrie, but a lot less conscious and obvious.

Why interest in what is beyond dreaming? We hunger for experience, for spiritual power, and to awaken who we are. We want to feel alive. I guess we have to do that, it's who we are, and we'd deform ourselves if we tried to be less.

But I think that if we're lucky, one thing we'll learn is patience, not to pry open that third eye, but to let it bloom on its own when its ready. Otherwise we force open a nightmare, though it may take many decades or many lives to be recognizable as such.

I'm out of time, so I'll just leave it at that.

If only more people would rant like you just did, then my ears could actually heal from all the nonsenses rants. In other words, I like your rant..

To say something about magic. Magic can be used to summarize a childlike immature mind, who either believe it can't understand, or dont want to understand anything beyond of what it know. Magic can also be used as to serve our curiosity and adventures sides, so that we can keep growing from our curiosity, into being our magical selves beyond the curiosity of who we think we are.

And that would be a Magical transformation..

Meditation + magic go hand in hand too. Control of the mind and inner peace is a good virtue to cope with having a higher understanding of the world. Especially when you abandon the flock and left to ur own devices in a sense. . .

I don't know much about magic. Except maybe the one time I was under attack by an Black Magic attempt. I thus see magic as a social experience. It intuitively might advise to practice Selflessnesss in accordance with magic.

And i'm not sure where Shadowofwind is alluding to when he's talking about magic. But I agree that there is a psychedelic reality that naturally flows forth from consciousness and it takes some virtue in growing up to be able to understand and handle such reality. I think.

Magic is trying affect the world with our minds. I later realized there is a natural process that exists to achieve this, it is called "action".

hihihi, that pun. It must be no coincidence to you that the buddhism term for 'action' is karma.

hahaha. Indeed, black magic is synonymous with bad karma as white magic is with good karma. If we do good deeds in this life, we will better the lives of those to come after our death.

^ Hehe, that is so true.

@ Shadowofwind, According to Manly P hall we are starting in the Kali Yuga age. It supposedly is an age of great penance and lasts 275K years. :-O What do you think about this? I think it's a scary but interesting prospect. I think some people like Wakingnomad's dreams seem allude to what's about to incurr. It's weird though.

^^ Well, if Manley P. Hall said it, and WakingNomad dreamed it, then it must be happening, right?

All petty sarcasm aside: To whom exactly are we directing this collective penance, I wonder? I also wonder how it is that our collective lives are, on the whole, getting better, more peaceful, and even easier during this great penance. Our world certainly has dark places, and will always have them, but those places have been diminishing for generations, and not increasing.

If anything, we may already be well into an era of technology-based magical times, curiously reflected in Shadowofwind's OP, and the magic being produced, though it does have its dark places (or perhaps morally rough edges), seems to me to be of a positive sort, overall.

To whom you say? While you say the collective is getting more peaceful. The masses still are vulnerable and easily swayed. I suspect this is only true for a minority of elitist/privileged community. Who have the leisure time to gain spiritual knowledge to grow. While the rest of the world still lives in hunger and war. In the meantime in the modern world another political elitist group of people manages to rise in power. Whose political views are based on fear and hinges of hate. If there is a penance I suspect it's directed at the mismanagement of this very political force and it's civilian proponents. If they manage to stay in control they could perpetuate dispotions between the people they try to keep out of the regime. And themselves that they are trying to sustain.
Ww2 has been only 65 years ago. With the tensions rising it's only a matter of habit that we grow into another catastrophy. Who knows, Hitler could win this time.

To ur second point. I really think that if there is such a thing as a Kali Yuga age. I also think that our personal peace is a necessary spiritual balancing act set in place to counteract atrocities and to make it humanly possible to withstand and live-through the maximum balance of intensity that this age might ensue. And the survival of Eastern religion (who seems to knew about it) is a relic that survived the ages due to divine providence. Precicely because they have the answers

Dreamybear, lol. Well, if yo think in terms of Aions. 2749999 is just a whim of the clock bro

Ok, this conversation just took a weird turn.. hehe
