It's been years since I've done acid and I doubt I'd ever do it again, but back when I did it this was something I wanted to try but never did. As we all know from lucid dreaming practices, waking up and going back to sleep early in the morning is a good time for lucid dreaming because there's good REM during that time. I think it would be interesting to know what kind of effect doing this would have on those REM periods, if in fact you stayed asleep through some of it. Perhaps you'd just wake up when you started tripping.

While I am kind of looking to vicariously live through someone else, I want to make it clear that this could be a damn freaky thing to do, especially if you do dream on acid. You could be having an intense dream and wake up tripping. It could be extremely disorienting. You have to be very brave with lots of experience on acid to do something like this. If you are such a person, do it on your own accord.

it is impossible to sleep on acid. a good hit will be felt within 10 minutes. don't see how it could possibly work.

I have done acid twice. The first time, it took about 90 minutes to kick in. The second time, it took about three hours. So I would have to take the stuff a few hours before that great REM phase, if I could sleep on acid. Once it kicked in, there was no way I could have slept on it. However, I can see where mushrooms might work. Those drugs affect your neurochemistry and give you a bit of dream while you are awake, so I don't think they could really alter the nature of your dreams. Dreams are the ultimate trips, while trips are only partial dreams. But waking up and tripping the moment you open your eyes would be incredible if it could somehow be pulled off. If you do it, let us know what it was like.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

i have taken small doses of cubensis before going (back) to sleep. anywhere from a third of a gram to recently well over one...likely approx. two (just rolled over and popped a dried stem and cap)

it seems to lengthen REM periods (or at least help recall), along with vividness and sense of solid location within dreamscape.

the waking up process is more gradual and subtle as well during these experiments. there are no definite divisions between sleeping and waking.

In the old Hippy days, the LSD products were all to some degree 'speedy'. And then there is the stomach queasiness and mild nausea that accompanies all of the psychotropic drugs. So, even if you could quickly fall asleep, I think that either to stimulating effects or the discomfort would awaken you.

Besides, who would want to sleep through an Acid Trip.

Lucid Dreaming is great, but guess on what scale Lucid Dreaming has always been compared?

One considers a Lucid Dream to be important only if it in some way can compare to a Good Acid Trip... or so I have read. I myself 'have never inhaled'.

Well, I was a young adult living through the Sixties.

What can a poor boy do?

I think it was Edmund Burke who said that in the instance of every Great Man, his virtues were his own, but his vices were vices of his Time.

And so it is that all of my virtues are entirely to my own credit, but if I have ever done anything wrong... well, I blame everyone else for that.

Hmmmmm. It sounded so much better the way Edmund Burke said it, huh?

Yeah, basically it would be really hard for you to go to sleep with the antcipation of an acid trip.

It wouldn't be possible to fall asleep when the effects have started, but it takes an hour for it to start. It would be possible to fall asleep after taking a tab of acid and waiting for the onset. That wouldn't be easy wih the anticipation of tripping, as DryMaker said, but not impossible. Eventually the effects would wake you up, but what I was curious about was the possibility that the onset could effect dreams if you fell asleep while waiting for the trip to start. And possibly more interestingly, would those dreams have an affect on the trip when you wake up...

i happen to know for 100% that you can fall asleep with a head full of acid. because i've done it before.

i was tripping at my house, with a bunch of friends. they all decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. i didn't want to. so i was sitting in my house alone. (everyone should know being alone is not a good idea while taking acid). anyways i started having a "bad trip" where the walls of my room were getting torn open by some clawed figure. so i immediatly started freaking out. and went to lay down on my couch and probably for about 10 minutes i sat there starring at my ceiling fan. watching it change shapes and colors.

i feel asleep. i couldn't say for how long. but when my friends walked through the door they woke me up and i felt just fine, except that i was still tripping.

i don't know which part of the trip that was. but if i had to take a guess i would say it was right at the end of my "peak".

i'm pretty sure you couldn't sleep long enough to even dream on the stuff though. so just let that be a reminder, next time you hear someone say it's impossible to fall asleep on acid.
