peripheral vision is sorta...freaky for me sometimes.

Like, when I'm sitting here on the computer, and there's a white shoe on the ground next to me, i'd see it in the corner of my eye and I'd SWEAR that it was my white cat Buffy.
When I turn my head, I realize that it's just a shoe...

Things like this happen to me CONSTANTLY, and it really bugs me, a lot.
Especcially this tiny stool that sits under a tree that I always see on my way home from school.
As I stare forward, listening to my ipod, in the right side of my eye I swear I see a cat.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
It's so crazy! I can't tell you how many times my brain portrayed the stool to be a cat, even though it's been there for YEARS.

It's even worse at night when it's totally dark, and when I enter my room before I turn on the lamp, sometimes a shirt hanging on a hanger will REALLY look like a human when I'm not staring directly at it, and I'll totaly freak out.
Like once I went downstairs late at night to get something to eat, and on the banister I hung my sweater out because I was lazy and didn't put it on the coat hanger. Naturally, I barely see it and jump. EVEN THOUGH I was the one who put it there not an hour ago!

So, is it just me - or does anyone else have issues with their peripheral vision?

BTW- I know it's not REALLY a "paranormal" topic, but I do know that it's NOT normal.

Armagedeon Heaven, I totally know what you are talking about! It freaks me out too, especially the shirt hanging in the closet that looks like a person's outline in the shadows. I've just tried to get over it and stop being such a wuss lol.

I'm glad this doesn't make me an overly-imaginative psycho =P.

I guess I should ignore it - but it's the kinda things ya can't ignore because it's a totally sudden, random thought. You remember doing it no matter what, lol.

And yeah, that's pretty much what I'm talking about, Burns. It's crazy, and it's unpredictable!

I get this too, but on a side note to this topic, people who can see auras use their peripheral vision to do so.

Have you taken the driver's vision test or been to an eye doctor lately? Might be worth checking out. Some brain tumors can cause tunnel vision. Don't worry tho; just mentioning it to be complete.

I thinks its caused by the brains ability to create stuff. How you percieve something is decided entirely by your brain. So if you can´t see something properly, like your peripheral vision, it creates something reasonable for it to be.

Its how the blind spot works. So that instead of seeing a black hole where our eye can´t see, our brain fills that space with road (for example).

I´ve also had weird experiences that have freaked me out when it comes to this. I stayed over my friends house once, she went out but when i went back to her bed i saw her lying there. I saw her whole body under the covers, her hair and her hands and could see rhythmic movement as she breathed, she looked like she´d been crying and i reached for her and asked if she was alright when i saw she wasn´t there.

I attributed it to being very tired and it being very dark but i will never underestimate the minds ability to create things. But its good, because things aren´t as we see them, our reality isn´t a stable understandable thing so i think the way you see stuff is healthy.

Heh, just saw a doctor who where he was talking about seeing things out of the corner of your eye

Oh my god I know what you mean. When I'm in the front room watching Tv, I keep seeing an "old man" in the hall, its just where all the coats are hung up. It freaked me out because I heard an old man died outside the front of my house years ago.

I suppose I'm in trouble, then. I can sometimes see like weird dark shapes moving in my peripheral vision...pretty much when I'm focusing on something, like the computer. Probably a combination of my imagination and overall tiredness, I suspect.

Hey there

This doesn't happen to me all the time, although I can relate the most realistic ones:

I went to meet a few mates at a pub nearby, they were sitting outside at a table when I arrived. So I walk over, say a general hi to the people on the far side I don't know, then lean across and shake my mates hands, Daniel, Matthew, Garth, Justin, then say hello to the girls on the side of the table nearest me.

Then Daniel gets up, and sits next to the girls so I sit down next to Matthew Garth and Justin. I order a beer, and the beer arrives, I turn to say something to Garth, and, he's not there. Like, I saw him (obviosly a quick glance) and thought I had shaken his hand, but he only arrived like 2 hours later. It might have had to do with Daniel getting up to move in my peripheral vision, and me confusing him with Garth or something.

The other time, I was riding my bike home and say out the corner of my eye a thin man with a cape and hat on, and was terrified (I knew it was death that was standing there). When I got closer and looked, it was a large sunflower.

Sunflowers are evil man!

I have peripheral vision incidents too. Sometimes, though, it's not just peripheral. Like once I was walking inside my house, and on the stairs I thought I saw a black shadow descending. It disappeared as quickly as I noticed it, so I don't know. A couple weeks ago, I was walking down my hall, and I saw a black shape floating through the foyer (we have a REALLY big house) and looked, saw it, but then it disappeared also. Recently I haven't seen anymore of those shapes and things, but there have been other instances.

It happens to everybody I guess. I think the explanation is simple:

- Your peripheral vision is less sharp than your central vision and thus it allowes your imagination to "complete" the things you see in the corner of your eye. And sometimes your imagination is very wild =D.

This does happen to me often, but I never really thought much about it.

What gets me wondering is when I get a VERY strong feeling that someone is watching me. Upon turning around, no one is there. This has happened to me so strongly at times that I did about 8 reality checks. I know full well the power of staring at someone; they will always eventually sense you and look your way. That is the same feeling I get, and I live alone.

The real test to check if something is actually there (out of the corner of your eye), or if it's just your imagination, is to observe your cat or dog. If your pet is in the same room with you when you think you see something, check to see if your pet senses anything.

Cats and dogs are extremely perceptive and can sense, hear, and see things that we often can't. So if your dog or cat just continues to snooze or groom itself lazily, you can be rest-assured that whatever you think you saw is all "in your head."

You may or may not know that there is a technique for "morphing" seemingly-ordinary objects by staring at them hard until they morph. This becomes much easier if you keep yourself awake for 24 hours or more. With practice you can hang on to the "vision" and even converse with the new apparition. Using this technique, it is very common for flora to morph into humanoid shapes. It's an old shamanic technique.

For another take on these black shadows, you should read "The Active Side of Infinity" by Carlos Castaneda..
