      OBE or something else...

I will try to explain this as best as I can so please bear with me as I will try to use words outside of the Navy terminology to describe what happened.

This may be a little long winded, but, I do get to the point. This happened about a little over a year ago and I still remember it even to this very second. Some of it is still a little hazy, but, what happened is still clear in my mind, and will try to bring about the best detail I can remember to this day.

      __________________________________________________ ______________

Its about 3:45 am (PST) and im in my FSA uniform (Food Service Attendant... however everyone has this duty at some point) I remember having smashed the everloving s*** (My apologies... trying my best not to swear here) out of my finger and causing an avulsion (only a small one compared to medical standards). I stopped the bleeding and waited for the Corpsman (Navy Enlisted Doctor) to come back to work at around 5:45 am.

He arrived, took a look, and helped me out. I got into the office, had a numbing medication applied with a syringe to my hand just below the avulsion. I was told I would not feel any pain and he would stitch the skin back to my finger (Note the skin is still hanging off of the finger).

He got about two stitches in when I said "I feel weird..." I remember him calling for someone after that I went black....

(Now on to the point at which I start questioning myself...)

      After I went black....

I started running, with full WWII army BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform) on, a rifle in my hand, and everything a regular soldier would have in that wartime era. Smoke, gunfire, and someone yelling "Run, Run, Run!!! Move it!!!" kept repeating itself over the raging battle. I got about 2 meters from the trench, hole, crater, or whatever it was and then I remember the smoke clearing... and getting shot in the X-ring (Xiphoid Process of the chest)

pain (as if I had felt it in the real world) filled my body...

Falling on my back, looking up at the sky, the army corpsman sticking me with something and then......

As soon as the army corspman stuck me I woke up on the deck (Deck = Floor)
of the Medical Bay (Bay = Room... atleast in this case)

      __________________________________________________ ______________

      That is about it.

I honestly don't know what it is the only reason I state this for all to read is because....

When I got shot in the X-ring (While I was blacked out)......

I remember the pain. To me thats not normal. Pain doesn't happen through dreams...

or does it? Because I honestly...

      Don't know...

I have had success with dream recall but in all of those dreams I hoestly don't remember pain. Nothing at all comes to mind at any time where pain presented itself in those dreams.

      Anyone... have this same experience???

Yeh pain happens like it does in the waking world.

Here's one of my experiences(don't know what to call these types of dreams)

I fell asleep and found myself in a field, a huge building just exploded before my eyes, somehow I felt I needed to go and help get the people out, (they were jumping out of the windows)or help put out the fire, so I ran towards the building, there was smoke everywhere, I only got within a few hundred yards and I felt the actual burning from the heat on my skin and started choking on the smoke, there were firemen everywhere,a fireman came up to me and told me to get as far away as possible and they will sort it out. Everything seemed just like it would happen in real life. The firemen were calm, but full on, I was choking on the smoke and the heat was unbareable. It was not like an ordinary dream, where strange things can happen and you can fly and mad things happen that's totally acceptable. I ran to a castle nearby for safety. Then I woke up and remembered the fireman, and the way they were acting, like it was totally serious and real. Then I remembered how the smoke and heat felt real, and the burning on my skin, and that I couldn't help even if I wanted to, it was strange.

What If the anesthetic he used didn't work and pain is what sent me into the black abyss.... could that point to something else?

It felt so real that I couldn't just make something up in my head and get up from the ground. No flying, no angel after death, no Flak Vest, (what was used to stop flak when jumping out of airplanes in WWII.) nothing that I could've possibly thought up at that point was going to save me. It was like I was actually bound by the rules of the waking world, except my mind wasn't in the waking world at that moment.

Sounds like you had a dream within a dream. You experienced one dream, blacked out through the pain, and went into another, and experienced more pain, then woke up. I don't know why pain happens in dreams, after all were supposed to be in bed asleep and nothing physical is actually happening to our bodies, but if our more ethereal energetic bodies feel pain the same in dreams as in the waking world, then they must be just as real as our physical counterparts.
Maybe someone else can chime in and give us some knowledge

I do like the idea that I had a dream within a dream. However it may be, I was not asleep when I blacked out...

I Literally did have an avulsion as mentioned... Its mentioned in my record (In the Waking world). It listed:

"Patient Blacked out while HM started administering stitches to Avulsion:
Index finger, R. Hand. Patient was out for approx. seven minutes. Patient stated 'I feel weird...' immediately before he blacked out."

Trust me I wish it didn't happen. The experience I had was weird, but, prodigeously fascinating. I would like to have another but hopefully not in the same way as the first one I have had.

I hope someone has some answers though. Not that your post wasn't an answer though ashberry.

Oh I'm sorry Silvers, I thought they both were dreams you had in sleeping world.
I have blacked out and not had any conscious happenings, maybe you entered a
time slip to a past life, I have past lifes come to me in dreams, with dress code exactly as it would have been, hey...you could have even been a soldier in WW2
many peoples past lives are revealed to them in altered states especially dreams....if you believe in this kind of thing

Pain doens't happen in the body, it happens in the mind. Whenever you feel pain, it's just because your sensors in any part of the body signal to your brain that something is going on there and the brain interprets it as pain and sends back that pain-signal to that body part so that it moves away from the pain source. But sometimes this mechanism doesn't work and that's why there are people that don't experience pain - they can put their hands in a stove, feel their hands being burned, yet they don't experience pain, because that's a process that should happen in the brain, but somehow it's not functioning. The same happens in plants - they sense being touched, being cut, etc, but because they don't have a brain to interpret the signals, they don't experience pain.
Reversely, you can experience pain in dreams. If the dream is very vivid and there's some level of belief that it is real or at least realistic, your mind will feel pain. No need for the signals coming from the limbs - the brain tricks itself into believing that it received such signals from your dream body and reacts as expected, generating pain.

I don't think it was an OBE, because those are usually of the present moment, but it could have been. It sounds to me more like you had a dream that was very realistic because it was a past life memory.
