The nick is better in this respect, even though google shows it's not unique there can't be so many people who associate themselves with it as the quantity of those who associate themselves with the same name. If you add an avatar, you make sure that other such nicks get eliminated, so I think it becomes a fully unique link to somebody. Why not?
It's a link to an internet account, not a link to the person who uses that account. Dreamers are people, not web servers. If you demand that shared dreamers have the godlike omniscience needed to connect an online id to an anonymous real person before they can even try for a shared dream, oh well.

No one is asking you to reveal your identity. That was the point of this thread, to provide a possible alternative way for shared dreamers to find each other in their dreams. If you don't want to participate at all, just say so. I'm glad for you that your normal lucid dreams are busy and entertaining enough that you have no rem cycles to spare for such an experiment.

My name is a link to my physical body, not to my mind. Dreams happen in the mind, not in bodies.

Ok we'll never agree on this, better to drop the topic.

Nobody has been offering anything like that, at least not that I've seen lately. If you mean the post that Creation-X made in some thread a while ago, he wasn't actively offering anything either, it sounded more like an excuse.

Don't jump to conclusions please, if I can't understand your ideas or disagree with them it doesn't mean that I don't want to participate.

Although on a side note, there's nobody here serious enough. A few people posted that they'd like to try, but that's all. Why aren't they posting "I tried and failed" or asking others whether they've dreamed of them. Maybe they're PMing each other, but I doubt that. Where's the discussion, questions about time zones, etc.?

So in effect, nobody cares or tries anything yet. If I happen to see somebody who cares I'll try.

I'll tell you why no one's trying anything; no one knows where we'll go. Just pick a place and be done with it. I'm with Space on going to the Moon. Plain and simple. He even posted a picture.

I agree. The way I see it, if it works, you have a better chance of meeting someone going by their forum name than their real name.

What I think we should do is split into teams of 2. It just seems easier to do things in pairs rather than one big group who doesn't know what anyone's doing.

When I've been trying to find people in dreams, adding an extra step like using a specific method for summoning/locating or setting a meeting place just seems to complicate things unnecessarily. I think that's been my main cause of failure lately.

It takes just as much effort to get a method to work or find a location as it would take to just connect with your target directly. Why slow things down with unnecessary steps?

I'll give you whatever information it is you need to enter my dreams. The reason people don't give the info is because they don't know what info you "need."

Starry eyes said that a dreamscape is needed in order to increase meeting chances in the absence of the real name and a photo. If we agree that the real names aren't needed, then we don't have to use the dreamscape. Imho it's useless, you go somewhere then you have to "summon" somebody, it's a waste of time. It's easier to start concentrating and summoning once you become lucid, without going anywhere for that first.

      That's a very good idea!

We need to know on what hemisphere everybody is, to make sure that nights happen at the same time. I'm on Eastern one, and I sleep at nights (just in case somebody sleeps at daytime on a Western hemisphere).

I was thinking that it's necessary to wake up by force after a supposed meeting. Or even if it failed. If you don't do it, then you could blissfully sleep through the night and completely forget everything that happened.

So it should go like this:
      1) summon another person
      2) ...
      3) tell him or her to wake up, and wake up yourself

I also propose to prepare a secret sentence to exchange and memorize, it needs to be simple and to make sense, so that in case it gets forgotten it could be restored not verbatim but by what sense it made. Then we could check whether the meeting happened not only by appearances of ourselves and appearances of things around. Words would be more accurate imho.

That's how I think it should go down as well. Nothing worse than actually getting lucid, finding your target, then finding out they had no recall for that night.

In one, I found my target in a lucid, and when I checked her DJ she wrote "I woke up with the feeling I forgot a really important lucid last night." It was so annoying because I was so sure I had gotten through to her.

Well, I already made my suggestion for a shared dreamscape, but I guess it wasn't a popular choice because everyone who wanted to try the experiment was talking about visiting the moon. The moon is fine if that's what people want. I only thought of NDEscapes for more hits. If I didn't care about the success rate of other dreamers, I could have suggested some fairly weird places my dreams have taken me. Though personally I've never dreamt of being on the moon. Mars, yes. And a moon around a gas giant. And on starships. But I'll have to see if I can manage the moon.

Arutad, I've had one dream which is either evidence of shared dreaming or else was so unlikely that I'd have more chance of being struck by lightning every day for a month. But that was with a relative I knew very well in real life. Some have speculated that random DCs might not be DCs at all, but other dreamers. But if we don't recognize those DCs from our waking lives, we can never know for sure one way or the other. They stop being evidence.

I think the only way to do this is to first meet, face-to-face, for an extended period of time, preferably multiple times, within familiar, mundane SpaceTime.

It seems apparent to me that it is not the dreamscape location that will act as the nexus for a shared dream. It is each individual’s unique “consciousness vibration”, their “psychic fingerprint”, that may act as the “homing beacon” to guide the prospective participants to find each other once within those lucid dream dimensions.

Specifically, once inside the lucid dream state/dimensions, an attempt to recall the target individual’s “personality aura” (how many phrases can we create to describe this particular aspect of the individual?) may function as a transmitter that the other lucid dreamer can tune into.

      This has worked for me.

Of course, it involves a very personal commitment, and I do not recommend that this be undertaken lightly. A very gradual, circumspect, and long distance introduction would be the only prudent way to proceed.
