Seeing what you have not seen

I'm not sure if this should go in this section but its a strange thought so i figure it should. I have only begun my quest to attain lucidity, so I haven't had the chance to figure it out for myself. My question is, if i were to have a lucid dream, and go somehwere I haven't been or seen before, would I see what it looks like, or would I see what I think it would look like. I have figured that it is probably what i think it is like but after reading about shared dreams I'm not so sure.

It would look what you think it would look like, but not in a literal sense. It would follow a general archetypal pattern, the main archetypes branching off in to new ones and so on in an almost fractal pattern, which is what creates the seeming randomness of dreams. But you would be limited to things you are familiar with.

So if I were to look at a picture and go there in a dream I would see the surroundings (not in the picture) as what i think they WOULD be not what they are.... that's what I thought...

It is what you would expect it to look like. Sometimes it comes from a more subconscious level, also. I can't tell you how many times I've gone somewhere in a dream and thought, "Gee, this is not what I expected this to look like." It stems from what Cusp was talking about with the archetypes and schemata.

Just jump in and get wet.

Then you'll start understanding it directly.

Talking about it before is useful up to a point. Its a bit like talking about sex in that you can get new ideas about it, but never forget, talking about it is not the same as REALLY doing it.

Funnily enough the same principle applies, you just have to get wet.
