Exclamation Hypnagogic Vision? (not just imagery!)

I'd be really surprised if this hasn't been brought up somewhere already, but I really did search, and I really didn't find anything like this, so here I am.

Basically what happened was that earlier tonight I sat down and closed my eyes--not intending to fall asleep, mind you, just closing my eyes for a minute--when I felt them roll back into my head and start to 'flicker' like REM. This ceased after a short while, but when I got both of my eyeballs looking straight forward (eyes still closed), I saw something much like this:

HI_Illustration (0;00;00;00).jpg <-- (Click the thumbnail for bigger size)

Basically it was a limited vision that saw my own body most strongly, but could also weakly perceive other things around me, as I tried to demonstrate in the photo. The colors and all that seemed like HI, only this was super advanced for hypnagogic imagery. I was in a public building that I've been to before, but chairs and tables were arranged differently this time than they had been before, and yet if I tried I could perceive their locations with total accuracy.

Honestly though, it was rather fun being able to see myself that way moreso than stuff around me. I could see my own body most intensely, so in that regard it was more interesting to look at.

I kept my eyes shut for several minutes and went around with my eyes shut, seeing stuff this way. Unfortunately though, my vision got gradually weaker by the second and before long I was blind again (until I opened my eyes, of course).

Anyone else had stuff like this happen? Do you think it comes from memories or some form of external perception? Discuss.

Very neat experience! Were you glowing as well as colorful? Do you feel you saw your own energy body? Btw, did you draw that? It's pretty awesome

Not really glowing; a little bit though, like in the picture. I don't think I saw my energy body, since moving my real body affected what I saw...or maybe the two were just linked together 100%? Not sure. As for the colors, that's how I see all HI. It's kind of like a height map; stuff that I perceive as close to me is green, stuff that's far away is purple, and then there's all the shades in between to give a sense of depth.

And that is a real picture I edited in Adobe After Effects

From what I understand, unless you are astral projecting, your energy body is one with your physical body. The two are so connected, without your energy body you would die. Im not saying that's what you saw though, I was just curious what you think it was.

And wow, all of your HIs are like that? I think that's pretty unusual My HIs arent any different from regular dreams except I'm still stuck on my bed. My friend's HIs are geometric patterns and exploding stars. But then again people think he's scitzo

Sounds to me like your mind's eye somehow linked up with your sense of proprioception - the human body's unsung sense that allows you to determine the orientation of your body (i.e. knowing what position your legs are in without looking) - and it manifested like hypnogogic imagery. Also, you probably visualized the furniture from memory. Sounds to me like you got a rare chance to experience what happens when two normally separate parts of your mind form a connection.

I'm guessing it probably wasn't your astral body, since you were still linked to your physical one. But maybe it's possible to control both simultaneously? Cool possibility. Then you could totally walk your astral body behind people and see their cards. New DV poker strategy? :3

LOL yeah, that would be interesting That actually brings up something I hadn't thought of, though: would it be possible to move beyond your physical body's constraints while in this 'mode'? Last night I never did anything like that; it was just 1:1 from what was physically there to what I was seeing. If I or something else around me moved, I saw it move just the same in my HI-vision. Weird thing was, I never could see people, even though there were other people all around. That probably confirms the thing about it being from memory.

Yep, every time I close my eyes for a while I see things in that color scheme. Usually they're just random swirls or low-detail images, though, nothing so clear and connected to reality as this before. Kinda made me feel like Neo

I had something similar happen today, I was laying down for a nap (Trying Everyman 2-nap schedule) but didn't feel sleepy. I saw my leg and hand and also saw a sheet at the end of the bed that I hadn't seen in years, the way the bed looked looked wasn't familiar. Then I had a hypnic jerk and everything swirled and faded away.

Even if I don't fall asleep for my nap I have a 100% chance I will have some kind of hypnogogic imagery. They are hard to notice though and when I do they normally go away quickly. Normally I end up catching myself using the computer and reading a forum, sometimes it doesn't go away right away and I can read the text but it's just nonsensical crap(may actually be an accurate description for some forums I visit lol). Sometimes the movements I make in these cause me to have a hypnic jerk, like if I move the mouse in it my hand will jerk suddenly and usually I don't even remember what just happened to cause it.

That's really interesting, Trevorm. Sounds like you had the same basic thing as me, only you were able to disconnect your physical body from the one you saw in the HI. Makes sense that you'd get a hypnic jerk from that...your brain probably can't sort out giving movement commands to two different bodies for very long

Interesting post, unfortunately, never had that myself. My HI or at least some of the starting ones are usually just cools swirling around. I have seen an office before but they looked normal, nothing fancy

If you felt like you were awake when doing this, chance you possibly were just seeing all the astral energy that is formed around us. Everything you see in this physical reality is just high vibrations of Astral energy. I personally do not see colors or auras, or energy that much. It generally is clear for me, but I see like a clear haze almost as if something is steaming off people. Sometimes I can see faint colors but practice practice. What I do though is feel things, I can sense and feel things as if seeing them almost which is just another form of Empathy. I know people who are the opposite though, it is very easy for them to see auras and astral energy, especially if in clear minded meditative states, but they cannot feel things like I do. The key is to go with whatever flows naturally to you at first and keep building it. If you saw those exact colors, theres a good chance you were seeing your own Astral energy.
People are confusing themselves to death with trying to understand all these different terms that often are all the same thing.
Quit worrying about words or trying to understand things and just flow with it.
Reminds me of a quote from Peaceful Warrior movie.
"You let things explain, dont ya?" Incase noone has seen that movie and no idea wtf iam talking about... go get that movie asap. It all goes hand in hand with LD/AP/HI.

Well, I managed to do it again tonight, on purpose this time. Basically what I did was just stop a moment to take in what I saw right in front of me--particularly my own arms/hands, since that can be the most interesting to look at. I just paid attention to all the details that I could; the lights/shadows of the room on me, skin details, etc. Then, I closed one eye to partially mess up my vision and tried to still recall in my head what I saw in perfect detail, not really relying on my remaining eye for conscious aid (though subconsciously I know it helped). Then I closed my other eye very slowly, always focusing on this image I had burned into my memory. After just a moment of having both eyes completely shut, I saw the image slowly appear before me in the form of HI, just as before. And from there, I could move my head around to get different angles, move my hands and arms around, etc. and it all would go translate to my hypnagogic vision.

However, I think I might have focused on my hands/arms a little too much...that was about all I could see this time. I once saw a chair very faintly and was able to accurately reach out and grab it by the back left leg without ever opening my eyes, but it disappeared pretty quickly. I never could see another parts of my body this time, and still no other people showed up, which I find odd. But at least I was able to do it again!

Sounds right. Of course you will put off so much more Astral Energy. Youre an Astral being.. You have a crystal, chakras, spirit, ect. The only reason the chair has Astral Energy is because it is just in this reality but it shows you how everything around is all connected and not just random matter.

      Hi there,
      nice experience
I have similar ones. But for me there are usually in black and white. Sometimes with nice resolution sometimes not so great. Its really weird to see trough your closed eyes in that weird state of mind. The latest for me happened last week at work. I felt tired and just put my head down on my hands on my desk. Then i felt that in between dream and real state and was able to see through my closed eyes. This time though was different i was able to see through my hands, my desk and directly onto my feet below the desk It felt strange but nice. I found that if one stays calm (not get excited or shocked) could hold that state longer.
One person told me once that from such state one can actually make astral travel. But i do not know for sure. Never did research. Is that possible?

One stupid question. I was searching this site for OBE tutorial but found none. Is there one around or I should check other sites?
