^ I used to work with a guy who sang the main lyrics (sentence) to this song every day, except he used to get a couple of words or so wrong/different.

Every time I hear this it makes me think of him, the room and him singing it, as it was his favourite song I think.

Yeah you'd be working away, then all of a sudden you'd hear him start singing: "...All I ever wanted, all I ever needed, ..." etc, etc. Lol.

      Good times.

It is now indelible. Cool song though.

All this Depeche Mode talk leads me to only one course of action. I post because I must:

Wow Depeche Mode! They were the dog's Bs...

I remember them back in the '80s. I should have clicked on when I saw the title too.

I most certainly do! The title was a reference to that very song.

And thanks for saying that, I'm pleased when I manage not to get swept up in emotions or fears in dreams. There are times when that's something I still struggle with in dreams, even in lucids. It seems to be improving steadily with practice, though, and in my experience it's very helpful not only for prolonging and enjoying the experience but also for confidence and dream control.

I usually fall asleep quickly at the start of the night as well. I will definitely have to try this tweak on my pre-bed mini-session! Thank you for explaining CL!

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask you, do you know the Depeche Mode song 'Enjoy the Silence'? What an appropriate title for everything after Klimanski! Void, no worry, enjoy! FA, no worry, enjoy! I really like this way of looking at what are often seen as challenges to LDing.

Thanks, fogelbise! Yeah the early LDs have been hugely encouraging. These dreams used to be so rare that I had a very infrequently used "no wbtb" tag, heh heh...

My process has been to just fall asleep focused on the fact that I will lucid dream like it's the very next thing I'm going to do. I set a really strong intent and use a mantra that "I will lucid dream". I treat it like it's the only thing I need to do and that I'm sure it will happen.

I can be fairly intense with this because I fall asleep very easily at the start of the night, moreso than at a WBTB, for example.

All in all, rather brute force, but it's been working fairly well lately! The percentage is nowhere near as high as a WBTB, but it's easy to execute just about every single night. So even with a lower percentage of success it helps!

@Nyx - Cool, I'm very excited that you've had success with a lot of these same ideas recently! It's a very promising way to shore up basic practices, particularly for situations like mine where my WBTB frequency has been so much lower than it used to be. Really expands the game.

@dreambh and fogelbise - Thanks gents!

This is so cool that you are hitting these early LDs! Congrats!! "Ba ba ba ba" lol! And latching on to what NyxCC said, it think multiple 8's are considered better than one, right?

What is your process before bed? I have been reviewing dream signs and setting intent to notice them, but your process sounds more direct and to the point.

@Highlander and Nyx - Thanks! Yeah, the early ones are exciting. This is a whole new experience for me and gives me a lot of hope in the quest for eventually making a greater percentage of dreams lucid, not just the ones after a purposeful WBTB.

And Nyx, great insight on a connection between "Ba" and the pagoda at the end! The pagoda was definitely cool. After these I'm always left wondering... so I put that there? Really?? Nothing like your mind surprising itself.

Ahh, I totally love those bed time MILDs, you keep them coming CL!

Great job, congrats on having the ld and completing a task of the month at such an early hour. I think this really is a great accomplishment! Cool answer - maybe wife was speaking in Chinese - ba 8 is considered a lucky number. The pagoda must have been awesome, I want to see it!

Cool idea to ask the teddy bear too!

      Congratulations CL on the TOTM.

Another early one too, plus you did well regarding the void and the FA scenarios to keep the dream going.

Wow! Your dreams are so cool, even if you spend half the time lying in a bed!

Cool, I hadn't picked up on the fact that your pre-bed work had been pumped up a lot for those lucids, but this makes a lot of sense! I'm excited that we both got similarly good results here.
Oh, haven't posted them, was wondering if I should at all since they were kind of shortish. Must review and maybe summarize them, to make the main point - pre bed practice does work, which stands out if one has been relying on wbtb as main ld source. Your recent pre bed milds (inc. The Inventor) are a great inspiration to continue on this path. Sweet dreams!

Thanks, Nyx! And I agree completely... even if it's not as high percentage as the WBTB, I don't see any downside to going for it early.

Like you said, we should be able to project our intent forward to some degree regardless of when we make the attempt. And think about how often dreams from the early morning will be reflective of events from many hours ago. Having LD on the brain at bed time seems very likely to help us with our attempts in the early morning as well!

Whoa, congrats on the super early ld! This one is a record breaker! I was recently thinking about pre bed work - if we can project our intent forward during wbtb, then why not pre bed? And indeed entries like this show it's absolutely doable. I did couple of experimental nights like this about two weeks ago with some lds as a result (although mostly brief ones). At any rate, this is very encouraging for us to try to capture as much awareness from our sleep as possible.

Thanks! Yeah I'm even pretty sure that he was saying some semi-coherent, interesting things but I was preoccupied with the slippery dream scene to make a strong enough mental note of what it was, unfortunately.

It was actually very early! I was a bad boy and went to bed at around 12:30-12:45 and I woke up from this dream at 1:15 AM. I may have just happened to catch a short, early REM cycle just right! Shows at the very least that it's usually worth a shot.

Congratulations on the lucid and not getting fooled by the realistic FA. It's a pity that you didn't get to chat more about LD to that Kurt guy.

BTW CL, how early would you say if you don't mind me asking?
