Lucid #190: Menthol and Marriage, Part Three

I have another false awakening in bed, but I quickly realize that it's a dream. I hop up immediately and phase out through the wall onto our street. The scene is dark, and after I’ve taken a few steps along the street, it collapses into the void.

I rub my hands together and keep walking forward. No scene takes shape, so I start thinking of directing where I want to go. For some reason I remember my personal goal of traveling to the Taj Mahal. I imagine that it’s in front of me, but can’t quite seem to get anything to take shape.

Suddenly, there’s a hard transition and a feeling of backward acceleration like I’ve been yanked back hard by a long cord. I think “Hell yeah” and get excited about where this will take me. But I’m super disappointed to
find myself back in bed in a false awakening.

The room looks just like waking life, so I assume that the dream blew up on me. It feels very “obvious” that this is a real waking, but I try a nose pinch reality check “just in case”. I’m shocked and pleased when
I inhale a rush of air past my pinched nostrils.

Immediately I start floating upward toward the ceiling, OBE-style. The room seems brightly lit now. I marvel at how convincing this feels, and as I roll over in the air, I see Wife laying in bed right where she’d normally be. She looks really hot to me so I float down to the bed beside her, feeling very amorous. I say something super cheese like “Hey girl, you know what I want.” Even in-dream it dawns on me that I sound like a doofus and I chuckle a little bit.

Fortunately she’s not repelled by all of this and we get to enjoy a little bit of sexytime before
    the dream ends.

Nice catching 3 FAs in one night!! I see menthol in the title, were you using it as an enhancer? The cord yanking you back to bed sounded kind of OBE-like as well.

Yeah, tonight was the galantamine/menthol/caffeine combo, which I discovered yields pretty incredibly results for me. I didn't just jump right into all of those at once but after carefully mixing and matching, this gave me a very nice boost in general. (Yielded my all-time best lucid dream a few months back.)

You're right about the cord! I wasn't thinking of a silver cord at the time consciously, but perhaps something called it to mind. I can certainly see why people get so into the OBE style of lucid. It's a pretty incredible experience.

Well done on getting past the FAs and void situations.

The OBE-like dream scenarios do make you wonder, especially when the room is very similar IWL.

You're right, the realism is just incredible in certain cases. In some dreams you get a very real-looking room that's nonetheless different. And then other times, it seems to just be bang on with real life.

And in general, you never realize this aspect of dreams unless you study it or happen to be one of the relatively few that naturally experience lucid dreams. Amazing stuff!

Ah the cord. Is this your first experience with it? Funny we both had not relatively close to each other.

Do you think the side effect of menthol is expectation because of all the talk? It seems to me if I have a very determined mindset I'm not tempted in the least bit.

Yeah, this was the first experience I can remember feeling any kind of pull like that back into an FA. I never saw a cord but more assumed that it was there because of the feeling of acceleration, which was just like being jerked back suddenly. Pretty cool! Wish I'd taken a look when I was floating.

You're right, you always have to consider expectation because so much of dream content and dream control is down to expectation. No doubt about it. They're so intertwined that you can never definitively rule it out unless the person has never heard of the "menthol syndrome" most of us in the thread have experienced at some point.

The increased dream density doesn't seem to be down to expectation, but as for the amorousness, I couldn't say!

Weird stuff for sure. Well I agree that increased dreaming is legit, but the other... maybe its a combination of the two.
