    Pyramid Artwork

Well, a close-ish call with getting to the Pyramid and some fun play with a few new techniques. Still have a lot of refining to do!

    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #168: Pyramid Artwork

I have a false awakening where I wake up excited about some video game idea. I’m desperate to write it down. I grab my dream journal, deciding that’s the best place I’ve got to write the idea down. This makes me think of dreaming, though, and I become lucid.

I walk toward the window, glancing over at the bed as I go. I see Wife sleeping peacefully on my side of the bed, and my sleeping body is nowhere in sight. I’m amused by the unusual layout and note that this is definitely not an OBE. I think about saying something to Wife as I pass but decide to just leave her alone.

I phase out through the external wall, winding up in the void. I imagine the scene as it should be, though, and after a few seconds it works itself into a convincing replica of my street at night. This gives me a nice confidence boost, so I imagine that the Great Pyramid is behind me. I turn around to find that it hasn’t worked, though, and it’s just more houses as far as I can see.

I’m feeling aggressive, though, so I use my fingers to draw a triangle in the distance. The triangle isn’t perfect, but it comes out in a shimmering neon green. With some focus, I’m able to slowly change the green outline into the distant Great Pyramid!

Seeing the Pyramid gives me a target to be excited about so I immediately attempt a zoom teleport. Something goes wrong, though, and the Pyramid actually gets further away rather than closer to me. This frustrates me and I start making a half-hearted attempt to fly there instead.

The scene resets somehow and I’m in a huge aircraft hangar. Okay, starting over. Again I go for the “draw a triangle” trick and I get a decent-looking triangle. I try to change it into the Pyramid but it stays stubbornly neon and triangular.

Several other attempts follow, including erasing and redrawing the triangle, chopping the top of it off and reforming it into a trapezoid, and drawing several copies at once. I can never quite make any of this work before
    the dream ends.

Whoa! That's a very good one! Congrats on the lds! :bravo:

As I as was reading this I saw a chain of brilliantly executed steps. Very quick and accurate thinking and you got that pyramid and when I read about the zoom I was like, man you're so good thinking on your feet. This dream has got me super excited.

Excellent job getting out of the void by expecting what should actually be there.

Edit: And your drawing skills are amazing!!!

Impressive dream control! I like the idea of drawing the pyramid! Isn't the Luxor pyramid in Vegas sometimes lit up in a green hue?...Vegas and neon also go hand in hand. Yes, congrats again!..3 in one night once again!!! You can definitely teach me more than I can teach you but I do have one thought...have you taken the pressure off of yourself on the TOTY? Sometimes letting go and not wanting it too much can allow for a breakthrough in lucid dreaming...of course my experience with that has more to do with having lucid dreams at all versus dream control specifically, but it makes sense in that when we start worrying about things it tends to cause problems in our lucids...none of these lucid dreams seemed to have a lot of worry in them though...so I don't know.

Thanks, Nyx! I appreciate that. I did feel like my flow was much smoother than usual here... that's exactly what I want to be my default mode of operation. I feel like a lot of your LDs are in this spirit and it works out very well for you. I came in there just flat-out determined to give the dream control my all. I came up quite a bit short in the end, but if I can preserve this attitude, it's a big step in the right direction. (IMO)

Thank you! I think that method of getting out of the void is a lot like the closed eyes teleportation. In my mind I was very much thinking, "Come on, come on, the street has to be here somewhere. It should look like this." I guess once we're cognizant of our own power in the dream, this is true of whatever location we desire... they're always "here somewhere".

And on the drawing, I appreciate that! This was more productive than the dog mustache at least, although not quite as amusing perhaps. I've been a bit surprised at how naturally it comes... you will probably find it's the same for you. Perhaps we've seen enough movies of this kind of thing being done that it seems natural, but I found it to be a dream control power that flows without too much mental fuss.

Ahh, very good observation! I had not considered it! This would not be my first dream (or even my first lucid dream) that contained elements of Las Vegas. I even had one that took place entirely in the desert surrounding the city. (Or at least my fantasy version of it.)

Thanks! You know, your question about whether I've taken the pressure off is a good one. I can tell it's a good question because upion reading it, I genuinely didn't know the answer! My natural inclination was to say, "Why of course I have!" But have I really? It is something I've been trying the whole year for and still hope to make progress on. As the timeline gets more and more hopeless (or let's call it "unlikely", heh heh), the more I have to view these as just learning exercises. Get the ones I can right now, save the rest for later. Task of the Year or no, these will still be possible to try!

Because there really is nothing to fear. There just isn't! This is all safe and it's all for fun. It's easy to remember that in the waking world, but in the dream world which is ruled by emotion, those doubts could magnify just enough to make dream control a little tougher. Something to always watch out for!

So true, they are learning exercises and getting to try all kinds of things that are working great! "Does it really have to be this year?"=pressure off perhaps.

      Excellent dream CL.

You seem to have mastery over the void; and as the guys have previously stated, you showed great dream control and summoning skills.

That's so true! In fact, I have been trying to brainwash myself during visualizations using the motto "I think, therefore it exists", even if I am unable to see something immediately, I make myself believe (during visualizations so far, but I want to transfer this to dreams), that my very thought is giving the object some sort of existence somewhere and that I will catch a glimpse of it sooner or later. I love how intuitively and easily you can pick up on these things and do them.

The last sentence of my previous comment also applies here. It's a real pleasure to read how you pick up those skills and perform amazing feats. I think what's very important is getting in the right mood to do this (and with as little interference from our thoughts as possible). When we are in the proper mood things really seem to flow so easily, dreams or real life. And needless to say, I want to try this drawing thing too!

Nice, sounds like some outstanding dream training! I think that this kind of smart practice is a big part of the reason you've done such a great job developing your dream skills.

It's funny how so much of this is down to simply realizing the truth of dreams. As you say, "that my very thought is giving the object some sort of existence somewhere". That we are the dream and the dream is us.

Aww, thank you! I am really looking forward to seeing how your dream artistry talents take shape!

Could be. I think that there definitely are some positive spillover effects, but the overall improvement I am hoping to make is taking a much longer time than expected. Still, I look forward to this little experiment yielding nice results sooner or later.
