    Lucid Dream 17

Date: January 10, 2013 ||| Time Block: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM ||| Length: 10 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3/2. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: WBTB, SSILD

Methods: woke up and helped Davey get ready for school; went to the bathroom; performed 5 or 6 SSILD repetitions; was resting in bed repeating the alphabet mentally.

    Account:
Fascinating, the most unique experience so far.

I lay down in bed, to finish sleeping. I thought I might as well try some techniques while I was at it. I performed 5 or 6 cycles of the SSILD technique, combining the different parts for an additional minute or so, and then went on to start mentally repeating the alphabet. The alphabet thing was just a spontaneous experiment of mine, to see if I could start a WILD with it. Apparently it didn't work, and I eventually fell asleep.

I awoke, and remembered to do reality checks. I tried plugging my nose, and I could still breath. I tried getting up, but my body was stuck in bed. I remembered from the notes on the forums, that when finding yourself in sleep paralysis, you can try to get out of bed by rolling off of it. It also mentioned that this often results in an OBE, or "out of body experience". Some of those on the forums consider the idea almost spiritual, but as far as I've seen it's just a special type of lucid dream, in which your dream-creating mind simply thinks that you have no body. (presumably since you're attempting to "roll out of bed" with an immobile body) Anyhow, I began to try rolling out of bed. As I did this, I felt a sensation of weightiness on my left side, as I felt very clearly the other time. Aware that a doubtful thought would likely wreck it, I tried not to think that it wouldn't work, so I focused on the feeling of weightiness and encouraged it as I continued my attempt to roll out.

An incredible thing then happened. My body, which had felt locked-in, suddenly "broke free", and my vision became slurred, and started feeling delayed. As I "rolled out of bed" completely, it felt as though I began to float, and my vision then changed in a way that I've never experienced before. Rather than a continuous stream of visual data, my vision had changed unexpectedly into some kind of "snapshot mode", in which every two-thirds of a second or so, I would get another "snapshot" of wherever I thought my head was turned. Amazed at this, I just looked around for a few moments, taking in the incredible experience. I then remembered what I'd heard on the forums—that in cases like this you can often see yourself still in bed. I turned around, and I saw myself lying there. I tried not to get too excited, as I looked very closely up and down my body, trying to gather any details I could find on it. Nothing that unusual. It looked like my body, while resting, except with my blanket laid loosely on top. Because of this I couldn't see my face, which is fine since that would feel very strange anyway. I then focused on the feeling of my body again. And I realized that I couldn't feel one, and that I could turn and move around just by willing it. I then noticed something strange with my eyes. They had an odd and distinct feel to them. I noticed that every two-third's of a second—in synch with each "snapshot of vision"—I'd feel a sensation in both of my eyes that is similar to when they are strained or are moving around rapidly. I figured that this must just be the movement of the eyes that occurs during REM sleep, and that, in this special type of lucid dreaming, it was somehow caused to match exactly with the displaying of images within my dream. Anyway, I then went for the door, which my dream had correctly understood to be closed. I opened it up somehow, and then went down the hall, to begin my descent downstairs. But unfortunately I never got there.

I woke up in bed. I did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up, this time feeling my body, and it felt like a regular lucid dream. I walked towards the door, opened it, and my vision immediately faded.

I woke up, did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up again, and got out of bed. I walked towards the door, opened it, went down the hall, started going downstairs, and then my vision again faded.

I woke up, did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up, *again*, and got out of bed, and remembered to just calm down for a second. Looking around, it felt as though the dream had stabilized. I then went on to the door and opened it. I went down the hall, and heard things going on downstairs. I started going down the stairs, slowly, with the intent to not overexcite myself. I made it down, and saw Davey lying on his play mat, which was inaccurately placed in the living room. He was by himself, so I went over and picked him up, both as a help for the dream's stability, as well as to just have my brother with me. He was talking to me, and moving about, and his eyes were sparkling with recognition and happiness. By the level of lighting, it looked like it was sometime in the evening. I slowly walked over to the family room, still holding Davey, and some of my family members were watching something on TV. As I walked forward, my vision began to fade, and I fell to my knees in an attempt to stabilize. Unfortunately, I was either not fast enough, or I didn't perform the techniques correctly. I then checked, and I had actually awoken.

I also had a dream about card games… although it wasn't a lucid dream. It had something about a Munchkin, I think?
