It does help to wake up though, as it may give you a better chance for a DILD. Even such a short time as going to the restroom. This way, you can say your mantra and set your intent even closer to your REM. (After some hours of sleep, REM will be closer to when you fall asleep. In other words, you do not go through a long MREM period before you get to REM)

      Good luck

If you can remember to do RC's whenever you go through a doorway or anytime you feel strong emotions that is a good way to go. You can even do different prospective memory targets each day. Another one I read recently another one is to do an RC anytime you catch yourself daydreaming/lost in thought/having negative thoughts. If the above ideas are difficult for you to get going, then you can use a truly random alarm like that on the Awoken app (Android) that goes off approximately every hour (it's truly random, so you set it off to go off say 14 times during a 14 hour period of the day - sometimes they will be 20 minutes apart and other times they may be 118 minutes apart for example). Although it is a bit of a crutch, it worked for me.

You could also get yourself a ring or a bracelet and dedicate it to lucid dreaming. It could be something zen, buddhist, or pretty much anything that would be special to you. Then RC every time you look at it.

"Everytime I look at my ring, I realize I'm dreaming". Then do your favorite RC, do NOT acknowledge that you are awake, but accept the possibility, that you could be dreaming. Better yet, BELIEVE, that you are.

The RC could be something related to the ring. Try to "will" it to change it's color, shape, size... Anything that's fun to you.

RCs are so much fun, because pretty much anything can be an RC. They are personalize them to be something unique, something that has a special meaning to you.

      Good luck!

Oh, and get ready for a surprise when it (ring...) starts showing up in your dreams : )
