      Pennyroyal's DILD workbook

Hi I'm Pennyroyal, 26 years old and have been practicing lucid dreaming for about 2 weeks after coming across a Lucid Dreaming subreddit on Reddit.com. There was a lot of information but little organization and the community was.. less than helpful. I have had a great experience with DV so far and since getting involved with the DV community and actively practicing inducing Lucid dreams I've been able to increase my dream recall from maybe a few a year to about 1 per night, 2 twice now after recording my dreams in a DJ. I've been able to become Lucid while in a dream once, and accidentally DEILD/WILD once just a few days ago.

I've been practicing awareness by really questioning if I'm dreaming or not, especially if I see something out of the ordinary and following up it with a reality check that usually consists of trying to breath through pinched nose, finger through palm, or double checking time if there is a digital clock around.

Currently I have been forcing myself to follow a consistent sleep schedule M-F from 10pm-6:30am, but have been considering going to bed a bit earlier.

I've been participating in the Intro class and have got to the final lesson which involves actually becoming Lucid and using dream control, etc. I figure since the main way I am focusing on becoming Lucid for now has been DILD and I need to actually be Lucid to finish the Intro course Homework I would sign up I figure If I stay involved it will keep my motivation up!

      Anyway, Thanks for reading!

Wow, they give you homework in intro? I didn't know we can do that

      Welcome to DILD class.

I have read some of your DJ entries. But not sure if I linked you this Collection of techniques for DILD.

There is everything in there you will need for a DILD. RCs, awareness, mantras, WBTB, ...

So keep me posted of your progress and ask if you have a question. Happy dreams

It wasn't any extensive homework, but I found it helpful.

You could give me some homework if you want lol.

I will definitely check out that collection of techniques, thank you very much. I'm sure I will have some questions soon

Gab I was wondering If I could ask you for a few pieces of advice. One about recall, and another about Mantras at bedtime.

Regarding recall - When i wake up from a dream, I can recall everything that transpired in the dream but the moment that I move everything almost instantaneously slips from my memory. Now the natural answer would be "Well how about not moving?". Unfortunately I roll over without thought after waking. Do you know of a way that I can get myself to stay still upon awakening?

Regarding mantras - I have been doing SO much reading over the past 2 weeks that I have kind of overloaded myself with information and I can't decide on a mantra to stick with as I go to bed. Would you consider it important to use the same mantra nightly from a learning standpoint? Also how important is it to repeat the mantra until you drift off to sleep. I find that I have a hard time falling asleep as I do the mantra in my head. I understand that it would be most effective if it was the last waking thought you have, but If I repeated it for 15-20minutes then just attempted to sleep, do you think it would still be effective?

The not moving part after waking up - I guess it will have to come down to practice. There really is no trick to it. Each time when you move, tell yourself, when I wake up, I stay still. Hopefully, each time this happens you come closer to not moving.

But there is a trick to rmember your dream - it needs to be transfered from dream memory to waking memory. You do this not just by replaying your dream in your head, but actually narrating it with words. This way it sticks while you get up and write it down.

I do have a lots of mantras, seems like one or two for bunch of different purposes. I have hard time of picking the one for the night.

It's best to use one mantra for a night, but I have used 2 on occasion.

If it keeps you up, then by all means, repeat it only to certain point. Then just go to sleep, it will still be effective.

Thanks Gab. I'm think my brain is trying to be funny with me. This morning I woke up and I had enough awareness in my dream to realize I was waking up and made note not to move. Which was successful! But then I couldnt remember the dream

I think we have about 5 min after dream is over to wake up and place it from dream to daytime memory. After that, it's too long and dream fades away, even if we don't move. We can't catch them all, but we can certainly try to catch as many of them as we can. Good luck

2 Nights ago I was able to remember 4 dreams in a night, so far that's a personal best for me by 2.

One of the dreams I had that night.. I can't remember the beginning of it, but what I do know is that I was in an old house of mine with a man i'm not familiar with. He is grinning at me with a mocking expression. Im angry and I am pointing at him and ordering him to explode. It doesnt work the first time, I tell myself that it's a dream and that I can do it but I try again only to fail. I seemed to know that I was in a dream but I don't feel like I had a high level of awareness or control.

It's a bummer to think this may not be the first lucid I may have forgot. But I suppose I'll just have to continue to be diligent with my DJ and recall to avoid it.

Sometimes I have a regular dream, in which I can logically 'think' what to do. Or perform RCs and fly and all LDish things, but it just doesn't click.

I think it's from hightened awareness. In any case, it's a good thing. Not the not clicking part, but the awareness in non-lucids.

      March Update:

As far as my awareness goes, I've gotten really good at taking stock of my surroundings and questioning if im dreaming or IWL when I'm outside/driving/etc.. But I never remember to stay aware and RC when I'm at home.

I did not remember one dream every night for the half of february that I started my DJ. But after adding them all up I had at least one dream for every night that I had started my DJ.

My DILD goals for March are to remember a dream every night, or have 31 dreams for march by the morning of April 1st.
I want to have at least 1 DILD in march.

I'm going to use "After a dream I wake up and remember" as my bedtime mantra.

      Sound like a plan

Try to write what you want to do in your LD in your DJ. Make mental images of it while you do it - daydream a little. Write a contract - Tonight I have a lucid dream. Date it, sign it, take it seriously.

You helped me this morning gab! I woke up, rolled over and when I got comfortable I noticed that I was experiencing some slight vibrations as well as a feeling like I was laying in a boat that was floating on some water. Shortly after I saw a strange image in my eyelids and in the center I could see a Dream scene! I waited for it to get a bit closer and remember something I saw you post about, rolling out of your body and into your 'dream body' (something along those lines). I felt like if I tried to roll I would just roll my real body, but I reached out with my 'dream arms' and climbed through the strange window leading to the dream. I managed to get my head through and look around, it was a kitchen. I woke up after I looked around.

I will start doing that before I go to bed at night when I'm trying to unwind. Thank you

Ah HA! I had my first DILD last night since attempting to induce lucids. It started to fade, but I was successful in stabilizing the dream by rubbing my hands together and feeling the texture of the hardwood floor in my dream. It only lasted about 3 minutes, but it was PROGRESS!

Feeling pretty stoked now, I was becoming a bit bummed on the DILD front since the only success I've had thus far has been 2 DEILDs - one of which happened quite by accident.

Congrats on your DILD! And hey, 3 min is awesome. Good job stabilizing. If you feel it fading, that's an excellent chance for a DEILD. Good luck

I had my 2nd DILD this morning, which was really exciting for me. Only 2 days between Lucids, which is a personal best for me so far. It was short, I forgot to stabilize because I was too intent on completing my goal.

I've been using my bedtime to set my intention for recall, once I wake up naturally I'll get up for 5 minutes, use the bathroom drink water etc. Then lay back down set my intent for realizing i'm in the dream state and visualize myself becoming lucid until I fall asleep.

It feels like things are starting to click, I'm pretty excited.

So second DILD, that's awesome! And many more, on channel four...

Yeah, that pesky stabilization thing. It's so exciting to realize, I often forget to slow down and stabilize.
