Welcome to DILD/MILD class, sreed628! Sorry for such a late reply. I promise to be more prompt in the future.
To your first post - are yo sure when you woke up you really woke up? Those types of situation frequently end in false awakening. If you start practicing reality checks every time you get up from the bed, next time you have a false awakening, you will RC and realize you are dreaming.
To your second post - Do you also think of these people during day? If yes, every time you think of someone, say "I'm dreaming" and do reality check, while believing, that you are dreaming. Hopefully this will give you awareness and make you RC next time you see such a person in your dream.
Third post - you actually had a lucid dream there! Had your daughter not woken you up, it may have been longer, but even a short lucid is a lucid. Congrats!
Now to your technique.
MILD can be very good technique. But if you'd like to multiply your chances, I would like to suggest to add elements of DILD into your practice.
Awareness is the most important thing we can practice. This is what will give us that small piece of awareness in our dream and give us an urge to RC. my favorite form of awareness training is the awareness question, fallowed by an RC and mantra. This is from article http://www.dreamviews.com/dild/13212...ods-dilds.html
During day, pause what you doing and ask yourself a question "Wow, am I dreaming?" that jolts your attention and makes you stop doing whatever you doing. For a moment, entertain the idea, that you are sure this is a dream or false awakening and feel the excitement in the pit of your stomach. Just pretend, that you have had a lucid dream before that was indistinguishable from waking reality, so this moment could also be a dream and you don't know for sure until you RC. Really believe that you are dreaming. Don't ever come to conclusion that you are not dreaming. You don't want notion of you not dreaming get into your dreams.
Look around and notice details. Look at your hands and count your fingers. Do you have the right amount? Do they look normal? Do a reality check. Try to gently push your thumb through your palm and expect it to go through. Is it going through? Pinch your nose and expect to be able to breathe. Can you? Can you levitate? If not, tell yourself "Next time I'm dreaming, I look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming". Repeat this mantra a few times while looking at your hands.
Pretty soon, this behavior will start manifesting itself in your dreams and you'll be asking yourself if you dreaming, while in regular dream. That will make you lucid. You will do a couple of RCs to make sure.
Please check this out and the above linked article for more about dream recall, mantras, RCs and other stuff. And let me know, if you would like to give this a try, or if you would rather continue with MILD.
Good luck and happy dreams
