      Mathieudon's DILD Workbook

Hello there my name is Mathieu and I've had 7 lucid dreams in total all of them were DILD's but I got these lucid dreams before really looking in to them I did record my dreams in me DJ and knew about lucid dreaming but all of my lucid dreams besides one were a few seconds. Now I know about alot of stabalization techniques so I am ready for my next lucid dream but it's been a while I started to pick up RC's in real life and started to be really active on DV. My DJ is also going well I am atleast recording a dream a night but most of the time more bu i just can't get a lucid dream even when I do alot of RC's

      Reality Checks
I do my reality checks 3 at the time most of the times but I am not sure if I have to do a RC when i think about it or just have a sort of schedule that everytime I enter the bathroom I do one or only when I see something out of place or something that is weird. My favourite once are:
      Nose pinching
Looking at hands and counting fingers
Looking at watch at look away to see if time changed
I try to do them without thinking ofcourse I'm not dreaming and use a mantra ' Next time im dreaming im aware ' And ' I lucid dream '

      Meditation
I don't do meditation of any kind but I really want to start lucid dreaming so I was wondering if on of you could maybe help me with what kind of meditation I should puck up that would really help me with my lucid dreaming.

      Dream Journal
I record my dreams and at least one dream a night most of the time more but I record my dreams on my cellphone I don't know if this is somehow bad if so please tell me. I only record the dream I don't write the date down or how long i slept or how vivid it was I only wrte down the dream if this is also really bad please tell me.

      Dream signs
I find it really hard to find my dream signs I am also not sure if a dream sign is in every single dream or just in alot of them if so I have a few ideas about what my dream signs could be.
I think I just found some dream signs.

I just started doing some Dream Yoga first im starting with the tutorial Billybob made were i start a few days by just looking critacally at my surrounding by noticing things and remembering those things just look at my surroundings more thats kind off a warm up. The next step is in every room I step i need to look from ceiling / sky to bottom and really try to make a mental 3D map of the room with as much detail as possible and connect other rooms and everytime I step in another room I need to make a map like that again. Step 3 is were I need to see the bigger picture zoom out a little bit like seeing the surrounding of the building and seeing the whole building inside my head with the rooms and how they are connected. Is this a good technique I don't know but I will find out after that I'm starting another Dream yoga tutorial also on DV were It's more with medatation were I close my eyes and listen to sounds my brain usually let's out and make it harder everytime the same goes with feeling. Really starting to work on my self awareness! I'm also going to try a WILD tonight so wish me luck!!

      Welcome Mathieu!

To help me help you better may I ask, over what length of time did you have the 7 lucid dreams and when was your last one? May I also ask how old you are?

      Reality Checks
I do my reality checks 3 at the time most of the times but I am not sure if I have to do a RC when i think about it or just have a sort of schedule that everytime I enter the bathroom I do one or only when I see something out of place or something that is weird.
That is up to you. If you can average doing an RC about once an hour that would be good. I say average because you don't really want to set a timer where it is exactly every hour. If you have an android based phone or device the free app Awoken is very good for a truly random reminder. I am sure Iphone has something similar. You just tell it how many times you want it to go off during a set time period, perhaps 8am to 10pm for example and it randomizes when the alarm goes off. You can also use what you mentioned or wear a rubber band around your wrist or write the letter L for lucid on your palm and RC whenever you notice the rubber band or L. It is important to really stop what you are doing during the RC and imagine "What if this were a dream right now!" You can even imagine what you will do in your next lucid dream and do your stabilization routine. Try not to think of it as stabilization. Try to think of it as something that you just do at the beginning of every lucid dream. If you worry about stabilizing, it can be counter-productive.

      Meditation
I don't do meditation of any kind but I really want to start lucid dreaming so I was wondering if on of you could maybe help me with what kind of meditation I should puck up that would really help me with my lucid dreaming.
Though not meditation per se, SSILD has a meditative effect for me and is also a powerful tool for many people to become lucid when used during WBTB. Practice it during the day a least once to see how it works and see if you can focus on just the SSILD exercise without being distracted and then you can use it during any WBTB's you choose to do. Link: http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...eam-ssild.html Now if you want to go with something specifically meant for meditation instead, I see a lot of different recommendations on the forums so I am not sure which is best but Vipassana comes to mind. It may be good to start with it's breathing meditation. Attention to your breathing can help you also help you in general. I actually use a breathing component with my practice of SSILD. I have used SSILD (in combination with various day practices) to get almost all of my lucid dreams.

On your phone is fine. The date is nice to have but is not essential. The time you went to bed and got up could be useful for finding the what works best for lucid dreaming for you personally, but again is not essential.

      Dream signs
I find it really hard to find my dream signs I am also not sure if a dream sign is in every single dream or just in alot of them if so I have a few ideas about what my dream signs could be.
They are just things that show up from time to time in your dreams. The more you dream journal and go back and skim through them, the more you will notice some common things. I like to skim through them and circle things that I think might be dream signs and many times I will find them in several different dreams. The more often they show up, the more reliable they can potentially be as a dream sign. Some of mine include being on or seeing a train, dogs, parties, scene going dark, losing my way/getting lost, and more recently a desire to take control of the dream even before I become fully lucid.

I like the goals that you have set for yourself and they are a great way to keep advancing!

Edit: your 2nd post came in as I was finishing up my post. I am not familiar with those exercises you mentioned, but Billybob is respected around here and why not give it a try and see how you like it. Good luck! In addition, for a different kind of self-awareness perspective I liked working with some of the examples given in some of the replies to this thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/beyond-dre...rspective.html

So after 2 days of trying to improve my ADA I finally got a DILD again.

I woke up 2 hours before I usually wake up and remebered a very long non-lucid dream and I wrote it in my dream journal it was also a very vivid dream and after learning to improve my ADA all of my dreams became more vivid. After DJing my long dream I went back to bed and found myself in a dream but this one was very weird because I tryed to nose plug in this one and it worked but right when I nose plugged I immidiately woke up I was stupid enough to not look if it was a FA or not but I woke up than I came back in the same dream again and first tryed to rub my hands and stabalize before trying to RC because I was affraid to wake up again and than I yelled I wan't clarity and woke up again affraid that my dad who sleeps next door heared me yell. This wasn't my DILD though it was very close I got a different dream after that one also a very long vivid dream what started out non-lucid but after a while when I was walking with my brother through a unknown street I remembered I was dreaming and found myself making a choice (I have chosen the wrong one) I could keep walking with me brother explore the dreamworld talk to DC's and try to fly etc, or I could go to my right say to my brother that he has to leave and try to have sex with that beautifull girl standing on a ladder there and I chose the girl I know it was stupid. But when I started to touch the girl my dream went weird and I woke up.. But it was a DILD with what I'm very happy. I still have questions about that second dream were I woke up all the time how did that happen?

Congratulations! It sounds like you had a lot of awareness that night which is excellent news! I didn't understand this:

I still have questions about that second dream were I woke up all the time how did that happen?
What did you mean in this quote above? If you could also clarify which dream you are referring to.

Thanks, I ment the dream were I woke up after every RC or stabilization method I nose plugged once and immidiately woke up and also when I screamed ' I want clarity ' I woke up instead of stabilizing I woke up.

And also this night I got myself a DILD again after waking up first I first DJ'ed my dream and went back to sleep I know it wasn't a WBTB because there was no mantra I wasn't up even for 5 minutes and couldn't be a DEILD because I DJ'ed first and became lucid later in the dream this time was also a little bit weird because when I became lucid my head was spinning all the time it was very annoying I became lucid btw through a FA I nose plugged I could breath and I was happy. But in this dream I tryed to stabalize again by looking at me hands and rubbing them together I also screamed again some things like I demand clarity and I want to be stable but it was still spinning and it was very annoying but than a DC told me there was a word on a object that if I removed that word my head would stop spinning so I removed the word and it was true so I jumped out of my window and tryed to fly but I hit the ground... but my dream continued and I ran and jumped again and this time I wasn't really flying but just floating a few inches above the ground and I didn't move thats when I felt a foot on my back and I woke up.

Congratulations!! Excellent! Another DILD! That DC telling you what action to take to stop the spinning is great. I feel that it was basically your subconscious giving you a way out of the annoying spin and you can use the same thing or something similar anytime you feel the need to exert more control onto the dream. You can make up what some call (intentional) false memories (thanks Sensei). Something like "Oh yeah, if I remember now, the trick was to touch my clap my hands two times and everything will be fine" or anything you want to tell your mind or your dream that will work to fix whatever is happening. Does that make sense?

As far as the quick awakenings the night before, that will get better with time. It also helps to not worry about stabilizing. From my earlier post:

(During the day) It is important to really stop what you are doing during the RC and imagine "What if this were a dream right now!" You can even imagine what you will do in your next lucid dream and do your stabilization routine. Try not to think of it as stabilization. Try to think of it as something that you just do at the beginning of every lucid dream. If you worry about stabilizing, it can be counter-productive.

Thanks again for the great advice!

So it has been 2 days/nights again and the first night was really bad because I hung out with my friends untill way past my normal bedtime so that ruined my sleep schedule and I only remembered 1 little dream that I could dream journal. Last night though I wrote 5 full dreams and 1 dream fragment none of them lucid though I see my dream recall is getting better but my motivation of being aware all day is lowering I know I just started improving my ADA and I think it is just me that when I work on something I want to be really good at it in the first few days and that's not how it works so I have to improve it bit by bit!

Congrats on the solid recall on the 2nd night! That kind of recall will help you with your efforts.

In regards to your lowering motivation...I have seen many people mention that it true ADA may be too much and is not sustainable...that it is just too taxing. If you are finding that, you may want to change up how you practice awareness. It can be changing to something different from ADA or just adjusting ADA somehow so that it works for you without taking hurting your motivation too much.

Ok so my motivation really got the worst of me I didn't write in my dream journal for a few days I think it has alot to do with the fact that my school just started again so I will have to go through this fase and start dream journaling and lucid dreaming again but I did got four lucid dreams in the last few days one this night what really got me thinking again why stop lucid dreaming it's going to be so awesome in the long run. The last 2 lucid dreams were also actually my best lucid dreams they were longer more vivid I don't know why they are longer and more vivid maybe because I got more used to getting lucid dreams. The last one I started flying on a bike and talking to DC's it wasn't like 10 minutes long but it was a nice experience and I finished 2 of my goals!!

Congratulations grabbing your 2 goals and getting more lucid dreams!

Motivation can be tough when you are facing all of the rigors of school at that age. Good job continuing to get lucid and yes I think lucid dreaming is well worth the efforts! During your busiest or most stressful times still try to keep up some aspect of it like rolling over when you wake up and jotting down notes for 30 seconds at the very least.
