Cool Flying for the first time, need tips?

Ok in one of my lucids I've actually flew for the first time. Well not really I was thinking maybe I should fly and I slowly jumped in the air slowly and I was floating in the air. I had the most amazing feeling about floating. Now how can I actually make my self fly? Any tips?

I flew in my most recent lucid dream just because I felt like flying and thought that I could fly; I didn't hesitate at all, and I didn't doubt my potential to fly, and sure enough I flew up into the sky after jumping off the ground. Part of it depends on the style you use for flying; I flew superman style.

A tip I can give you about flying is the "trying" of it, just "try" to fly and it should work. This last lucid I had, I flew so fast, it felt as though my body would crush into pieces from the speed.

Visualise your momentum driving you forward rather than the expectation that you'll make contact with the ground in a second, almost as if you're light as a feather or have some air current that directs you.
Also visualising the environment helps rather than the ground infront of you, I find I simply leap and expect to have a birds eye view of the town or city all of a sudden, and generally start flying to a landmark that interests me.
I used to find flapping sometimes gave me an uncertain feeling, and I'd drop a little until I just directed my body forward with my arms out.

Maybe practicing "the jump" from the matrix could help?

Lol, I've had that, momentarily afraid of hitting a lampost or banging into rooftops on the way over.

      Best of luck.

Don't think too much about it, if you try too much you will probably fail.

1.Imagine zero gravity, you have to believe there's no gravity.
2.Jump and focus on the place you want to go.
3.Don't forget you're dreaming, this happends to me alot, keep repeating you're dreaming.

Like Morpheus said to Neo :" You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief. Free your mind."
      I hope I helped.

ACTA is the new bitch now.

I think it seems to be absolutely different for everyone. Even for me, it's different from dream to dream; one dream I can be flying gracefully through the air with just the slightest thought, and in another I have to be putting all my mental power in to just staying above the ground and moving in slow, shuddering stages.

I find that when I have flown it is more like swimming. I love swimming, the weightlessness, the ability to go up and down, and flying in my dreams feels like that. Sometimes I seem to float through halls, and other times I arc up and over houses, down the road or over the hill I live on. I have had lots of these dreams and the ones I am aware of my actions in I have had control of flight in about half of them. I have to just let it happen because if I think about trying to fly I find I can't do it any more, but when I act like I'm swimming (underwater swimming) I can fly with the birds.

Another method that works is just jumping up and going for the ground in a superman posture, it should be scary but try it and you should fly perhaps out of fear of hitting the ground.

      Subject of FLYING

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Pick a nice day, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] suggests, and try it.

The first part is easy. All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight, and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt.

That is, it's going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground. Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly, the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard.

Clearly, it is the second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties.

One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It's no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won't. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else when you're halfway there, so that you are no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it's going to hurt if you fail to miss it.

It is notoriously difficult to prize your attention away from these three things during the split second you have at your disposal. Hence most people's failure, and their eventual disillusionment with this exhilarating and spectacular sport.

If, however, you are lucky enough to have your attention momentarily distracted at the crucial moment by, say, a gorgeous pair of legs (tentacles, pseudopodia, according to phyllum and/or personal inclination) or a bomb going off in your vicinty, or by suddenly spotting an extremely rare species of beetle crawling along a nearby twig, then in your astonishment you will miss the ground completely and remain bobbing just a few inches above it in what might seem to be a slightly foolish manner.

This is a moment for superb and delicate concentration. Bob and float, float and bob. Ignore all consideration of your own weight simply let yourself waft higher. Do not listen to what anybody says to you at this point because they are unlikely to say anything helpful. They are most likely to say something along the lines of "Good God, you can't possibly be flying!" It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right.

Waft higher and higher. Try a few swoops, gentle ones at first, then drift above the treetops breathing regularly.

      DO NOT WAVE AT ANYBODY.

When you have done this a few times you will find the moment of distraction rapidly easier and easier to achieve.

You will then learn all sorts of things about how to control your flight, your speed, your maneuverability, and the trick usually lies in not thinking too hard about whatever you want to do, but just allowing it to happen as if it were going to anyway.

You will also learn about how to land properly, which is something you will almost certainly screw up, and screw up badly, on your first attempt.

There are private clubs you can join which help you achieve the all-important moment of distraction. They hire people with surprising bodies or opinions to leap out from behind bushes and exhibit and/or explain them at the critical moments. Few genuine hitchhikers will be able to afford to join these clubs, but some may be able to get temporary employment at them.

Take advantage of personal archetypes/schemata, etc., etc...

Honestly, that is only 'universal' way to fly. Anyone who tells you differently is straight-up wrong. Flying like Superman or Neo or whatever is going to do jack-shit for someone who isn't familiar with those characters/ideas. Same deal with every other "flying technique" out there.

Sorry if that sounds brash, but I'm tired of people focusing on the "how" without paying any attention at all to the "why" when the why reveals all the possible hows you could ever want.

I'm also literally tired and quite sick.

      So. . .

Balls to "ILDs" and all they create. Most of you will have no idea what that (or any of my post) means. Just accept it as the ravings a madman and go about your life, maybe you'll see some wisdom in it later down the road. Or not. Doesn't matter either way, right?

Oh yeah, another good idea for flying. Just go to a place that is below the ground and is pretty high and jump off.

InducedLD so in my thinking fallow the light knowing its blinking and be aware of this.. U must be like Peter Pan you think of a wonderful thought i will give an example

Wendy: I'll think of a mermaid lagoon, underneath a magic moon.
      John: I'll think I'm in a pirate's cave.
Michael: I think I'll be an Indian brave.
      Peter Pan: Now everybody try.
Wendy, John, Michael, Peter Pan: One, two, three!
Wendy, John, Michael: We can fly! We can fly! We can fly!
[the children all fall to the ground]
Peter Pan: This won't do. What's the matter with you? All it takes is faith and trust. Oh! And something I forgot.
      [grabs Tinkerbell]
      Peter Pan: Dust!

sorry if I insulted enyone but Peter Pan was before superman and neo

You guys should all practice flying IRL.

It's a good way to prepare for when that big LD comes around.
