      Tuning Out Wakeworld

I sometimes hear myself breathing, or taste my morning breath, or feel the inside of my own mouth when I kiss in dreams. It's annoying. I want to be completely lost in the Dreamworld.

What methods do you use to tune out Wakeworld input?

As the night progresses, your dreams will begin to diminish in quality and your real body will get ready to wake up about an hour before you actually do. Not much you can do about this. Try activating many senses at once in the dream. Eat something crunchy while wind is blowing in your face and your walking. Basically try do stimulate your dream body and keep your mind off your physical body. You could even try taking a different form in the dream world, become a jelly blob or something lol. Feel your dream as much as possible.

Great ideas! Thanks for responding. Crunchy, that's brilliant, because it makes noise.

Wow - this is your first post on here, isnīt it?
      Cool.gif

Wonderful - welcome from a relatively new but chatty other dreamer!
I will think of your blob, next time an LD flees me - the other things are also good - Iīm having this general stimulation of the dream-body in some ways as one of my primary goals.
I really like the wind - I also read something about undressing - could go nicely together..
I tried to eat clover once - after smelling the grass - but I didnīt even get to feel it in my dream-mouth - next time, Iīll try eating something once more!

      Hello.

I read this post a few days ago with no helpful information. Today, I stumbled upon something which might be helpful to you Nomad. We both tend to want to tune out the waking world but this post approaches the issue from the opposite angle.

Lessee: I close my bedroom door, close 2 sets of blackout/noise dampening curtains per window, turn on a fan, and finally turn on a white noise machine. All these things together tend to help wash external noise... and that white noise machine is excellent at masking my breathing. I also try to keep my head in a position that both prevents snoring and doesn't allow my breath, say, to bounce off a pillow and make extra noise or draft.

Regarding taste control, a good rinse with listerine right before bed ought to make those kisses a skosh more tasty. If you do WBTB, then rinse right after the first "B." For what it's worth, strange tasting kisses are an excellent dreamsign -- though that doesn't make them any more fun.

Beyond that, things like feeling the inside of your mouth, finding the food you're eating has the texture of tongue and tastes like mouth, or (my personal favorite) endlessly looking for a functioning bathroom because you have to pee, you're kind of screwed. This stuff happens when your dreams occur close to waking times (also when most LD's happen), so many of the sensory devices that are happily turned off in earlier stages of sleep are beginning to function. The best you can do is try to imagine better tasting kisses, or hold the makeout sessions in earlier REM stages.

Just one short personal experience from lately:
I had read to stimulate all senses when a LD starts - so I tried to do that.
I knelt down and smelled at the grass - this worked - I smelled grass.
But then I took a bit of clover - put it in my mouth - and I didnīt even feel it - let alone taste something.
The outside of my body was sensitive though.

Now comes a bit of theorizing - the sensitivity in the mouth comes from a nerve directly leaving the brain - and not the same arrangement, which does body-sensations.
This of course it also true for sight, hearing, smell - these are other direct brain-nerves - and they obviously can be simulated quite easily..
But at least this would explain why touching-feelings can be there in the one district - and not the other.

I have had many dreams where I have to pee, I find a place, I pee, then I become lucid, because I still feel like I have to pee. I freak out and wake up, to find out I did not wet the bed. I just have to go really bad. This has happened to me hundreds of times. I never wet the bed even though I always have dreams about peeing! I usually don't post those.

This is weird - endlessly looking for facilities - I know that so well!
One dream lately I thought - whatever - and used a very unorthodox one (yes - worked in my dream - no wet bedding either..).
But with the result of getting "caught out" while at it - and ranted at .. hehe.
