Finding the balance and reach lucid fantasy?

I am having a hard time to control my surroundings when I'm lucid dreaming.
It seems as the only dreams I will be able to be lucid in and actually have a chance to experiment with the dream world are the ones that are the most lifelike. Almost all my lucid dreams took place in a city or indoors, surrounded by casual characters who have very believable personality traits.
I have tried to change my surroundings by focusing and managed to make new characters appear but never exactly what I wanted to.

In my regular dreams, I've seen it all. The end of the world, demons, creatures, out of this world landscapes.. but I can't seem to be lucid in those dreams, at least not completely. Does anybody have an idea as of why? I'm starting to get tired of experimenting with the few things that cross my path in lifelike surroundings. I've interacted with the people around me, tried drawing, managed to fly, experienced sensations such as the sense of touch and taste (I'm always amazed by the taste of food in my dreams haha) but in the end, it's getting old.

I feel like I'm managing to stay lucid for a longer period of time than I used to, wich I guess is a good start..
but am wondering how I could progress in matter of control.

These dreams are distracting you from the concept that you're dreaming.

You can progress in matter of control by using your imagination to find something that will work for you. For example, if you wanted to summon something, you could stick out you hand to the side or behind you and have whatever you want blindly handed to you. If you wanted to teleport, you could summon a television, change the channel to the scene you want and phase through the television it to enter the scene.

Dream up a way to succeed and try it in your dreams.

I often find myself to forget a lot, too. So I end up experimenting with whatever is on my path. I guess I will find ways to succeed with practice as I feel I already did a lot of progress in my past dreams, but they always happened naturally and I don't feel I LD enough to be able to progress. I guess I will work on inducing LDs first and work my way there afterwards. Thanks for your input tho, the more I read around here the more I'm starting to understand that you have to find ways to make yourself believe that you can control certain aspects.

^^ It's a good idea to work on your basic skills and consistency first, Jet, but here is a thought for when you are back in one of those "normal" scenes: simply leave it, and do so in an unusual manner.

For instance, next time you find yourself indoors, walk out of the house. Don't even concern yourself with the given dream scene, and move on to a new one with the full understanding that there is a new scene waiting for you. To really change things (and in the likely case that outside winds up being a continuation of inside), you might consider just lifting straight up, rising rapidly out of the scene, and don't stop rising until you have left the scene far below, and far behind you in your mind. Then close your eyes and quickly reopen them, and a whole new scene should appear, this scene being one that more closely resembles the really creative stuff your dreaming mind can present. Also, doing this with your remembered dream goals in mind will very likely help you to fashion the dream in which you had originally planned to be. This process will take some practice to do successfully, but it is much easier to do than it sounds; especially if your desire to leave the current dream scene is strong.

I believe there is something about the presence of your waking-life self-awareness in a dream (aka, lucidity) that encourages your unconscious/dreaming mind to produce dream scenes that best represent the place your current mindset (lucidity) is supposed to be: namely, waking-life. So it keeps the scene as mundane as possible, probably in an instinctual attempt to avoid confusion. The best thing to do, then, is to give your mind a little kick, to remind it/yourself that it is okay to abandon the mundane and let your dreaming mind to take you to the fantastic places you wish to visit.

      Pretty good advice, thanks!
