      spinning didnt work.

i had a lucid the other night, and i was in a classroom, reading the chalkboard. i read what was on it for a while, then decided i wanted to go somewhere else. i started spinning around, but i never went anywhere. everything just went black, and then i wasnt lucid anymore. this was my third or fourth lucid, i dont remember which, and the first where i actually attempted to change scenes. whats up with that?

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

      spinning always works

but you have to make it work. moving around in a circle wont do it. But believing that the entire scene will change when you start spinning will help things out. Focus on the something about the scene to make it come true. The floor, the smell, the sounds. ect. Will you be standing on a rug? A waxed floor? The beach? will it smell like summer time? a dump? sea breeze ect.

Spinning isn't just spinning. Spinning is spinning, and thinking about every major aspect of the area you want to be at in order to get there at the same time. Don't just tell yourself you'll end up at x. Tell yourself you'll end up at x, and think about how something feels or smells while you're doing it.

Great advice, just make sure you don't focus on where you want to be too hard, or your dream will be boring; your dreaming mind is much more creative than your imagination. For example, I was once spinning and I said "forest." Suddenly, I was in the forest having a picnic in a perfect forest with the Simpsons. The best part about dreams is they can take you were they want, always providing a new, exciting experience.

Yes, the thought and expectation behind it is what causes it to really work.

Spinning will work for everybody, but it may not be the best. For me, spinning doesn't work without a lot of effort. Try whatever works for you, even if it's something unorthodox.

Have you ever seen The Mask? Spin like him, like a top.

Spinning has only worked once for me. The first time I got lucid and i used it to stablize the dream. I took a break from this for a while and tried again. My first lucid dream after so long, I spun to keep myself from waking up and didn't work. Since then, no more spinning for me.

I do plan on using it sometime in the future just to change the dream scene. Last time I wanted to go somewhere, I flew but I never got there because it took too long. I just don't really trust the spinning myself so much.

I'll be sure to make that a goal for future lucid dreams. Perhaps my next?

You have to keep spinning after the dream fades.
You need to give a new scene a chance to form around you.
Its this feeling of spinning which prevents you waking up when everything else is black and you have - temporarily at least - no other stimuli.
I've found it can take wee while for the scene to change.

In my first LD I tried to change the scene. I didnt spin but closed my eyes and thought about the place where I wanted to go. When I opened my eyes everything looked the same and I thought I had failed until I noticed people were talking in english (wanted to go to New York - I´m from europe). So this simple thing wasnt a complete failure.
When I closed my eyes though I had the feeling of waking up, so next time I definately will try spinning.

Spinning sucks. The feeling of movement is good for keeping you in the dream, but the movement it's self is too disorienting.

Don't do a spin that would make you dizzy, try quick ninja-like 180 degree spin around jump. Kind of like how they describe trying to see a SEP field in Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.
