Some people clap their hands and say something like "increase clarity", and their clarity does increase. You may also find soem helpful links in the tutorials page. I know that it has a full tutorial on dream control, and another on increasing dream realism. Perhaps those would help.
      ...And then to dream...

Remember that its just a dream an absolutely nothing can harm you. Dream control has to do with what you expect to happen, expect the dream to be pleasant and wonderful and expect you to be able to control everything. Just don't get scared and give up, their is nothing to fear.

building on what sugarglider said, probably the only reason that happens now is that your mind expects it to happen based on past experiences. If you can abandon these expectations, their results will dissapear as well.

      1. If things are blurry/non clear then I recommend sitting down, rubbing your hands together and taking everything in.
      2. I recommend shouting "increase clarity/lucidy" or 'Calling' your conscience and asking him/her/it to make your dream more vivid/more clarity.
      3. Also believe and have confidence it will become clear.

      Hope these helped!

Get ahold of your emotions. Things look scary because you are scared.

One of the most basic levels of dream control is learning to use your emotions. Just switch emotion (the stronger the more effect it will have) and you'll see how you surrounding literally change as well.

For instance with anger, colors become darker, angles become sharper, DCs become confrontational. Every emotion has a predictable effect on your dreams. Fear is no exception, replace it with confidence.
