Thread: Lucid dreams always dark, (i can't seeee)!!

Have you tried changing the scene? If you can still see doors then you could use them to get to a sunny beach. Just imagine your destination before opening the door.

Alternatively you could use dream control to see perfectly in the dark. I've had this ability in regular dreams - sort of like how in a dream you can also sometimes breathe normally underwater. As long as you expect being able to use the ability it should be easier than attempting to change the lighting (which I've heard can be one of the harder things to change in a dream scene).

Create the sun in the sky, the hold your hand to it and twist it as if its a knob.

In my dream outside looked too creepy and dark so by creating the sun and twisting it I set the level of light I was comfortable with.

Something that's helped me in almost all of my LDs is what I personally call the 'sliding gradation' technique.

Think of the night sky as the lowest brightness on that gradation scale (at or near the bottom). Now, think of the whole sky as a slide - simply hold up your finger to the sky, and slide it up to get it lighter, or down to make it darker. Don't forget to think of your intentions during this. You can also help it by saying 'lighten up' or the latter. ^^

So are mine, I actually think it's cool... to change it, walk through a wall or go through a door and just say outloud, the sun is out on the other side.

When I saw the title I thought you meant dark as in "creepy" and "disturbing"

Anywho, this works for both situations (darkly lit and darkly themed). It's something that, of all things I have tried, seems to have the most dramatic impact on dream control for me. When ever my dreams aren't going the way I want them to go, I use self affirmations. It might seem silly, but I'll say things like "In this place, I AM GOD!!1!".... and the more dramatic I say it, the more dramatic the results.

I've been able to completely turn around awful situations by reasserting my authority over my dreams by appealing to both reason (you create all aspects of your dreams, and therefor ultimately have authority over what happens in them...whether you can control it or not) and emotion (by getting myself pumped up and crazy).

Thanks for the help guys. I tried the light bulb turning technique last night, mentioned by loaf i think it was. awesome name. But all it did was change the colour of the sky.. But then i realised that while i was travelling down the road. I couldn't fly, But when i made a sound effect to go with the motion of taking off. It seemed to work. So i tried it with the Light of the dream scene. i made the noise sort of like an xbox 360 powering up or something haha. And It worked to an extent. It was almost as if i was Turning back the day. It got lighter and lighter untill i finally stopped at what looked like sunset. The clouds were a dark grey and the horizon was orangy pink with the sun just ontop of the hills in the distance. It set a very relaxing and calm mood for the dream. Thanks guys

I used to worry about this too. At first I found I would go through phases where my dreams would be mostly set in day time - and then I would have a period when they were mostly set at night.

I also found that if I had the type of LD that some call APing (where you enter SP and feel as though you are drifting out of your body and find yourself floating around in the bedroom) then these would always be set in night time - because thats what my mind was expecting to see. Whereas If I WILD into a dreamlet then its normally day.

If I do find my self in a "night" dream then now I just fly towards the horizon and say out loud "its nearly morning, the sun is going to come up soon" - then sure enough dawn breaks almost immediately.

Its amazing what you can do in your dreams. When i get lucid, im going to make a scale of 0 when the earth was made and 10, where we are now. And i shall slide the slidy thing across the scale to 0 to see what will come up

You'll see a black hole spewing out star material, and then over billions of years that material colliding with each other, gaining density and gravity... and then pulling in more star material, until either being eaten by the black hole that made it, or like our planet did; find a nice star and settle down

Obviously some numbers are off.
If you want to see something cool, fast forward to the end of the universe, find out if it exists, and find out if the universe is going to collapse on itself, or tear itself in two.

Haven't read Douglas Adams; they have a restaurant there!

I have the same problem Sasuke. Only in a small fraction of my dreams, but I think it's just because we need to learn better dream control.

You could use any of your other senses, touch especially and everything should clear up.

yea, this works because it keeps you "into" the dream which increases vividness and delays drifting out.

Remember, for those with similiar problems, it may be that you're losing Lucidity too fast, so try spinning or rubbing your hands together to re-activate you senses.

I basically did that this morning, and it worked! At first I said "let there be light", or something, that didn't work, but this did! There are easy aproaches in controlling lucids at things that can be hard in other ways, there is always a way to make it easier.
