Alright. I finally got around to watching it last night. It was kind of odd for me since I was watching it in Japanese and there was some feeling that it would switch to English, but I got used to that.

At any rate, I thought that it was a really good movie! I especially loved the fight scenes, of course. I think I'd have a more thorough opinion when I watch it again, though. I'm glad I bought it.

Sequel to a Great Game; An Awful Movie
While this may the sequel to the video game masterpiece Final Fantasy VII, its merits as a movie are few. The plot is void of all key ingredients that make a movie fun; there is no direction in this movie that makes you care about these people; and the acting leaves this piece in the dust. Not even the fight scenes help this movie, which are not well choreographed or very believable -- even with a dose of fantasy. And yes, while this movie may excel at showcasing computer animation, they almost get in the way of you wanting to put your heart in this movie. In short, those that played the Final Fantasy VII game will find this movie inadequate and almost insulting -- resembling a Saturday-morning cartoon based on an epic masterpiece. Those that have never played the game will be completely lost. At least they can just say its a horrible movie without facing the feeling of a broken heart delivered in the form of watching their favorite gaming epic utterly insulted.[/b]

found that on a costomer review and was angered

if this person actually played ff7 then he would have already cared about the characters.

and what part of final FANTASY does he not understand if he did indeed play the game there are spells and summons and limits (in the movie i saw a bunch of them and they rocked by the way) the fight scenes are not supposed to look like they can acually be done in real life.

another thing most people will hear FINAL FANTASY VII and think wait thats a game and then go out and get it thinking that it was the movie FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN then relize that it was a movie and then get it ... dont ya think?

by the way who else cought yuff about puke when she comes in on the parachute she has motion sickenss
you can't do that on the internet!.... wait yes you can do it again!

Heck yes! I was a big fan of FFVII before the movie came out, so when it came out in Japan I immediately imported it! It totally kicked ass, it comes with english and swedish subtitles so I could still read what was going on. Also, does anyone know if it's true that you don't get the japanese box art and that you don't get the second super cool extras DVD in the American version? I was looking at it in a store and it seemed like only one disc. Anyways this game rocked. There was more lines with Vincent in this then in the actual game. Oh, yeah, and Cloud kicks ass, once again, and this time kills Sephiroth faster than Aeris died. Mwahahaha. Personally, Cloud should have killed Kadaj when he had the chance, but that wouldn't have made much of a movie, now would it?

Yeah, that review is a complete joke. Haha.

Caring about the characters? We've had 50+ hours of gameplay to care about the characters. Anyone who's played the game knows that. Who needs more character development, when you've basically Lived the characters' life story?
And the fight scenes "aren't that well choreographed?" What the hell movie was this clown watching? Cloud vs Loz and Yazoo in the forgotten City? Come on. The corkscrew flip, alone, that Cloud does while weaving back and forth between the two of them was f'ckin genius. Loz pulling out Yazoo's gunblade as Yazoo bounces off of Cloud and does a backflip over him? Beautiful. Cloud vs. Kadaj - how about when Kadaj leans out of the way of Cloud's blade, catches it behind his back, does a f'ckin sideways flip while holding Cloud's blade against his body and twists it right out of his hand? That was incredible.
For those who haven't seen it yet, none of these are spoilers because there are kickass moves like these all through the movie. I could go on and on. Of course I have a few gripes about some of the "unbelievable" stuff. (Like Loz slinging his motorcycle with his legs. Could have done without that, but it's hardly worth bitching about.)
My guess is, if that was even a real review, this was some clown that has never even played the game, and is so embarassed that he had Asolutely No Clue what anybody was talking about, in the movie, he had no choice but to trash it.
This movie gets better and better every time I watch it.

Would you recomend playing through the game before seeing the film?

It took me ages to get my hands on the game, and it crashes at the start of the chocobo race at the gold saucer.

I can get the film right now, should I? Or should I try to get a working version of the game first?

I definitely recommend playing the game first, if you're planning on playing it, anyway.
You will understand absolutely NOTHING in the movie, unless you've played the game. Haha. Trust me. I played the game years ago and it still took me a minute to figure out all the associations.

On the other hand, aside from the parts with the heavy dialogue, there is enough eye-candy in it to probably keep you interested, but it's a bit of a gamble because even though half of you will be thinking "WHOA!!" the other half will be like "....but what the hell was THAT about?"

I watched the film in Japanese with some of my friends who haven't played the game. You're correct, the eye-candy kept them enthralled enough to watch the movie, and enjoy it. They did demand that I explain to them what was going on afterwards.

Oh, and for the love of God, watch it in Japanese.

I plan to, I hate it when they dub films.
