      metal bands I listen to

      Dream Theater
      Kamelot
      Megadeth
      [old] Metallica
      Avenged Sevenfold
      Opeth
      Probot(not really a band...but a great CD!)
      Tool
      Queensryche
      Corrossion of Conformity
      William Gray

also, I incidentally picked up a copy of Between the Buried and Me's latest CD, I haven't finished it yet, but they're showing a lot of promise.

other, non-metal bands that sometimes venture into metal:
      Porcupine Tree
      Queens of the Stone Age
      O.S.I.
      Mr. Bungle
      Umphrey's McGee
      Spock's Beard

if you can't tell...i'm more into prog than i am straight up metal. I also listen to alot of other lighter stuff...i'm not too hardcore

My favorites are Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Lamb of God.
I know a lot of people are gonna hate me for it but I hated In Flames' older stuff, but I love their newer stuff. Aside from that I listen to Amon Amarth, Job For A Cowboy, Despised Icon, (early)Metallica, Iron Maiden, & Dimmu Borgir.
System of a Down also has some good metal songs, although they are primarily a rock band.

I love metal. I pretty much listen to all the genres, but ill list em just to clarify

      Doom
      Black
      Death
      Melodic Death
      Heavy
      Speed
      Thrash
      Melodic
      Power
      Metal

As for bands, my current favorite is Megadeth. Im looking to start a band with my mates, but we only have me and him who play guitar and we're looking for a drummer.

      Getting more into folk metal.

Tyr, Agalloch, and Ensiferum = win. I'm learning the intro to Tyr - The Rune right now, so fun.

Experimental, tech, death, thrash, and grind are all pretty good. Some of my favorite bands would be Sigh, Meshuggah, Gorguts, War From a Harlot's Mouth, and Diablo Swing Orchestra.
They animate me. In confidence I thrive. My reign: supremacy. I speak no word unheard.
Re-motivate me. I'm all there is to be. An omnipotent being so complete in my diversity.

I like the slower, heavier variants of metal, particularly doom metal. The early works of Candlemass are good.

Of course, I also enjoy the classic staples: Maiden, early Metallica, Megadeth, and last but not least, Black Sabbath.
