Cannibal Corpse is good; it is just sad that they have to write stupid lyrics. Nile on the other hand is incredible. Skilled, educated, idealistic, and honest.

Oh yeah definately Dream Theater. That music is perfect. Man I'm looking forward to their concert in september in Helsinki. The new album is quite good and it sure has some fresh new ideas. You can recognize it as DT.
As for other metal, I like some power metal bands(mostly Sonata Arctica) but also trash, Pantera being really big. Still, all progressive music is my favourite. I'm not so much into black and death metal. They'd be good if they sang. I like the aggressive elements but not the screaming..

Canniabl Corpse are indeed a great band. Tight music that's a blast to listen to. I don't pay much attention to lyrics in death metal in the first place,s o they don't bother me at all.

Oh god, if only Pj could see this! (Has he posted?)

Oh my god, I've found so many better bands then Glass-casket, and Sworn enemy. Kreator! Awesome thrash, and black metal.

I've picked up the new Megaddeth cd. Or, their latest CD. Kick-fuckin'-ass! They're keeping metal alive and kicking. The lyrics are amazing, I can't get over some of the Lyrics, and vocals they have. Dave and the rest of his crew rip on politics, war, and nearly every other mistake. If you're looking for a killer CD, buy it!

Is it really that good? I have heard this a few times, but I just find it hard to imagine. Megadeth have tried a few times to play like they used to, but it never seems to do it for me.

After all these years I still listen to Rust at least once a week though.

I'm a bit confused when it comes to metal. I really like Dream Theater, but haven't found any other metal bands which appeal. This rather puzzles me, and I've decided that the factor for me liking metal is either the vocals, or it having keyboard in it.

Iseadragon, what other bands have you heard? Based on what you've said, allow me to recommend some other groups....

      Symphony X
      Pain of Salvation
      Ayreon
      Riverside
      Queensryche

That's all i can think of actually, unless we venture into the less digestive style of vocals, which it doesn't seem is your thing

Metallica - Anything they did with Cliff Burton (R.I.P). Otherwise fuck 'em.
      Ulver - DAMN STRAIT!
      SLAYER!
      Some Children of Bodom
      Most Dragonforce
Kalmah - Really awesome Finnish Melodic Death Metal
Norther - Same vein as above, though a little more thrash orientated. One of my personal favorite.
      Meshuggah
System of a Down - Their early stuff only
      Most Tool
      Early Venom
Edit: After reading the below post I realized I left out Amon Amarth and Shape of Despair...

      METAL UP YOUR ASS!

I know i'm leaving a few out, but that's the gist of it.

I love CC. Exceptionally talented musicians behind the tough mask that they put on when on stage.

I've never seen this many Dream Theater fans on a (Non-DT)forum before.

      My favorites:

Dream Theater (though Porntoy has been a little too dominating lately )
Metallica (their older material is kickass!)
Iron Maiden (again, likes the two first albums best)
Meshuggah (crazy band, love their Holdsworth-inspired solos!)
      Tool (deep band)
Mike Patton (must be the craziest musician ever , love all his projects)
Mastodon (especially Blood Mountain, one of the best albums ever!)
Nirvana (I know they're not metal, but I had to include them :p)

Pain Of Salvation are quite cool too, but I don't listen very much to them.

I love progressive metal. I'm going to go see Dream Theater later this month, I can't wait! The only real metal I like is thrash. Slayer, Pantera, early Metallica. I've been listening to alot of Dragonforce lately, too.

Mike Patton is great, metal or non-metal. Have you heard any of the stuff he's done with John Zorn? Not entirely metal, but Astronome is just brilliant, and could be considered metal in some ways. One of my favourite albums. Ever.

me 2! I looooooooooove it!!! There's no comparable metal band who is able to play both so beautifully AND super fast.

Then Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Sonata Arctica.

And I need to buy CDs of Wuthering Heights, Symphony X and Forgotten Tales

so, my favorite is more Folk and Speed metal, than Black, or Death Metal. I prefer harmony and beauty to screaming mindlessly into a microphone and the like

I am not "mindless" thank you.

Screaming is an artform whether you choose to think so or not. Anyhow, I sing folk style as well. Both are necessary to convey certain emotions.

I didn't want to offend anyone by my statement, but for a noob in that sort of metal, it sounds mindless. Maybe if I listened to it more intensely, I would maybe change my opinion.

No offense taken at all. Your comment is quite a popular one, and is to be expected from those new to the genre. It takes a bit to really get into the harsh vocals. Some people never do however.

Well just to defend me, I'm not really new to genre, I've been listening to Metal for a while (4 or 5 years), I only stick to the harmonious Metal, or "Fantasy Metal", as I call it. And, I'm not really into dressing me like a metaller, let alone goth-like.
      It's like: I like the Metal I like ( :p ). Metal I don't like, I simply don't listen to it intensely... it's maybe a bit confusing

I enjoy Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Trivium, Nevermore, Metal Church, Dissection (SotLB), Dream Theater, King Diamond, Machine Head, Opeth, Saxon, W.A.S.P., Yngwie Malmsteen, Pantera, Extreme, Slayer, Evergrey, Dokken, Hammerfall, etc. This would be the most part of the metal music I listen to. I'm into other genres as well outside of metal.
