It's been mostly late '90s-early '00s IDM, trance, trip-hop, house, some indy rock, some jams/roots and some progressive hip-hop for me the last few years, though I mostly shuffle the iPod for tunes, and it has quite a variety on it.

      I'm always happy to hear:

      Daedelus
      Dabrye
      Proem
      Thievery Corporation
      Flaming Lips
      Modeselektor
      Busdriver (some of it)
      Lemon Jelly
      Basement Jaxx
      The Decemberists
      The Beatles
      Pink Floyd
      Jimi Hendrix
      Phish
      The String Cheese Incident
Keller Williams (my #1 live act right now)
      Devo
      Modest Mouse
      Tom Waits
      Buffy Sainte-Marie
      The Lab Rats

Some old favorites mostly getting the skip right now:

      Pearl Jam
      Johnny Cash
      Underworld
      Indigo Girls

      Prepare for a long list:

      The Beatles
      The Doors
      Led Zepplin
      Pink Floyd
      Alice Cooper
      The Guess Who
      Tom Petty
      Oingo Boingo
      The Police
      Pet Shop Boys
      XTC
      Talking Heads
A little of the Human League
      Siouxsie and the Banshees
      Keren Ann Zeidel
      Paolo Nutini
      Hugo ("La Nuit des Baloncoires")
      Warren Zevon
      Norah Jones
      The Rosebuds
      The Shins
      Death Cab For Cutie
      Future of Forestry
      Fischerspooner
      Ladytron
      Goldfrapp
      White Stripes
Others. I like Rhapsody because it allows me to expand my horizons musically without needlessly wasting my money on crap CDs.

But a lot of the music I listen to is classical, my favorites being Dvorak, Brahams, Bach, and Beethoven.

I'll try to keep this short.
Alice in Chains- Layne Staley's death was a huge loss, but I love Jerry Cantrell, and am looking forward to their new work.
Soundgarden- Chris Cornell's voice, Kim Thayil on guitar, the whole band was amazing.
Rage Against the Machine- Sick grooves, aggressive vocals, some of the best videos of the 90's, they were the shit. Tim Commerford is my second favorite bass player.
Children of Bodom- How do you spell Guitar Hero in Finnish? Alexi Laiho.
Cream- One of the first and best power trios.
Pantera- I can't even begin to describe. Dime is my favorite guitar player ever, his tone alone blows my mind.
Down- Southern stoner metal. Phil Anselmo, the best vocalist ever.
Kyuss- Best stoner rock band ever. Josh Homme's best work, and John fucking Garcia on vocals.
Mastodon- Best mix of progressive technical stuff, and sludgy groovy riffs. Brann Dailor is probably my favorite drummer ever.
Opeth- All around awesome, everything they've done. And they are covering Would? on their new album.
Primus- Les Claypool is by far my favorite bass player ever. Such a unique band too.
Bad Religion- Best punk band ever. Greg Graffin just happens to have a great voice and be an amazing lyricist.
Daft Punk- Best at what they do.
Black Sabbath- You could have assumed by this point that they were missing from the list.
Michael Jackson- The King of Pop.
Stevie Wonder- Represents the R&B, soul, motown thing that I love oh so much.

I think that is more than enough for now. As you can see, I like good riffs, groove, and talented musicians. The range of genres and styles represented here isn't that broad (except for a few) but these are bands who's entire bodies of work I can listen to over and over again without being bored.

I generally listen to tall kinds of music, and Jack Johnson has so far been my all time favorite, but as of right now, I'm getting really into incubus. I've heard them plenty of times before, but I totally underestimated them until now. They're so good!

I listen to mostly metal. I'll like anything that's progressive. These are my favorite bands (list hasn't been updated in a while):

Thrice, The Fall of Troy, Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Agalloch, Spiral Architect, Ayreon, Dream Theater, Ephel Duath, Gorod, Necrophagist, The Faceless, uneXpect, Thursday, Psycroptic, Devin Townsend, Cynic, Twisted Into Form, Gordian Knot, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Tyr. I'll give descriptions later.

I'm pretty sure I started out listening to Linkin Park, before I started playing guitar. I still listen to Hybrid Theory every once in a while. Then I moved onto post-hardcore/metalcore stuff (Thrice, Thursday, As I Lay Dying)... Then got into BTBAM and Opeth. After them, everything else followed pretty quickly...

Nice list Red. You should check out early At the Gates. Progressive melodic technical death metal to be precise. There is nothing more baroque on this earth.

I'm sure i've posted in this thread before, but it was a while ago, and my tastes have changed slightly since then i believe.

These days i'm listening to a lot of these:
      AMM (free improvisation pioneers)
      Meshuggah (prog metal)
      Opeth (prog metal)
      Guapo (avant-garde rock)
      Merzbow (noise)
      Skullflower (noise)
John Zorn (all sorts of crazy/experimental stuff)
      Joanna Newsom (alternative/folk/pop)
      Circle (rock/kraturock/experimental)
On The Virg (crazily technical rock/metal)
      Pain of Salvation (prog metal)
      Sigur Ros (post rock)
      Poeta Magica (folk)
      Thinking Plague (avant-garde rock)
      Henry Cowell (avant-garde classical)
      Astor Piazzolla (tango)

And i'm starting to explore EAI (Electro-Acoustic Improvisation) in more depth.

I'm starting to like progressive and power metal, and classical music. They sort of coincide, I guess.

Specifically Dream Theater, Stratovarius, and Beethoven. I like the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack too.

Check out Symphony X as well. Prog/power metal with tons of classical influence.

I mostly listen to all forms of rock and metal, with classic rock and plain heavy metal being my favorites. I also like jazz and blues, and pretty much anything else except for country and mainstream rap.

      My favorite bands would be:

      Queen
      Iron Maiden
      Rush
      Black Sabbath
      Metallica
      Pink Floyd
      Radiohead
      Buckethead

Gotta love Blaqk Audio, AFI, and Bloc PArty. Some big leaps there.

By far, Mothra (in all of it's forms) is the worst kaiju of all time.
