South Park. No contest. South Park is the funniest show of all time. Trey Parker is the greatest comedy writer in the history of television.

I agree with Cartman, the jokes in Family guy just aren't relevant to the plot, and are completely random.

I love the episode of South Park where they show the writers for Family Guy are just a bunch of manitees that randomly retrieve colored balls. One color has a Noun, one color has a Verb, and the third color has a Celebrity.

"Hey, remember when I [VERB] [NOUN] with [CELEBRITY]?"

Okay, I'll bite, even though I know I'll get attacked for it. I prefer Family Guy over South Park. There, say whatever you want about me.

Personally, as far as animation aesthetics goes, Family Guy is miles ahead of South Park. My eyes feel offended when I see how crudely the SP world looks and how they just hop around and spew poo at each other instead of actually utilizing walk cycles. Why an SP fan would say that FG has lazy animation, even though it is painstakingly traditional animation and not just hop-around flash animation made in two weeks is beyond me.

Secondly, I don't like how preachy SP gets at the end of every episode. I know that the last few seasons of FG have become annoyingly preachy themselves, but at least they don't have a little kid at the end earnestly stepping up on some soap box and making a "profound" bit of Libertarian "wisdom" with a piano playing in the background. Every. Single. Time. It's like Trey and Matt say "screw everyone else, we're the only smart people on the planet" while they try to make out with themselves in the mirror and shower in money, reveling in their own original observations about the world.

FG is shallow and is in it for the jokes. Who said otherwise? I watch FG to relax and actually LAUGH. What's so wrong with jokes? It doesn't matter how the show makes me laugh, but it does consistently, and sometimes so hard that I feel my eardrums ringing. I don't remember the last time I actually laughed and enjoyed an episode of SP. Sure, I would say, "That's clever and I liked how they dug into so-and-so", but laugh? No. What's with everybody's elitism about what's supposed to be funny?

Different strokes for different folks, though. I watch FG because it feels far more approachable and enjoyable to me. It's like, "Come on and laugh with us, forget the world for a bit". SP just seems cold, hateful and spitting venom at everybody, even its own viewers. That's not something that I want to watch.

Although I have to thank South Park, because without seeing the "Cartoon Wars" episode where they mercilessly attack Family Guy, I wouldn't have been curious enough to see what wrought Trey and Matt's panties in a bunch so much.

Then you, my friend, are a grave minority among fans of Matt Groening's work. I can't help but see a lot of the humor in Futurama as childish (although it's a kind of childish that I happen to like). Sure, a lot of the humor in The Simpsons can be considered childish as well, but to a much lesser degree, I think.

You know, I used to find South Park preachy and mean-spirited, too, but at some point it just kind of clicked that they aren't taking themselves seriously AT ALL. They're not "spitting venom" at anyone; they're just laughing at them. I find my own views on the receiving end often enough, but I can still laugh at the absurdist satire. The soapbox shtick is largely self-parody; their first and only loyalty is to humor.

I have to say South Park has considerably more style to the animation, and it's a lot more interesting to see how they're going to translate a celebrity, character, spacecraft or citadel of rocking tits than Family Guy, where it will just be badly drawn. When is the animation itself ever interesting on Family Guy?

I think that I like The Simpsons better than Futurama overall, but I saw one of the many full-length Futuramas that they did and it was great.

Of the four shows talked about here...

      With overall performance...
South Park > Futurama > Simpsons > Family Guy

As of right now(past 2 seasons or so)
South Park > Futurama > Family Guy > Simpsons

Depends on the mood I'm in. South Park seems to do political issues better, but Family Guy non-linear humor can be pretty funny.

South Park is hilarious and the jokes are original.

In Family Guy they use the same, "You think that's bad, remember the time I (insert something here)?" and other jokes over and over again.

The only two shows I watch on TV are South Park and Futurama.

Everyone pretty much bashes FG for the same thing, the endless cut-scene jokes. I agree, most of the cut-scenes aren't funny at all. However, I watch FG for those little moments that just make me laugh so hard I piss myself.

I think it's unfair to compare FG to SP, because I think SP is in a whole other league. FG is good for a few big laughs (mostly from Stewie's one-liners), but SP delivers on every level to the fullest.

One of the main differences is that SP's episodes and jokes are waaay more memorable. FG is pretty flat most of the time, but does deliver some really funny jokes.

      I vote SP.

Haha, that's true. You don't want to be friends with the guy quoting Family Guy.

I like how South Park makes fun of current events. I don't like the setting though, 4 kids in a Colorado town. Family Guy has funnier jokes, but I like how both use obnoxious, vulgar humor. I like Family Guy better.

Wow. The setting is the same. Sout Park has way better jokes. And they don't make fun of current events, they use them in their plotlines. You're smart enough to see that South Park has current events going on, but not smart enough to see that Family Guy is shit.

There is no need to judge people's intellect based on a TV show much like there is no need to base it on their favourite color. Please refrain from making these comments as they are sophomoric and antagonizing.

Definitely south park. Hands down. The writers are incredibly creative as they focus and make jokes about things that are really going on now such as the economy, HIV/AIDS, and shit like "high school musical 3" lol

Yes family guy animation is better, but I'll take the jokes of south park and cartman's toilet mouth over eye-candy anyday.

I remember the episode when Cartman has AIDS, him and Kyle go to see Magic Johnson and find out that the cure for HIV/AIDS is cash...LOL...ACTUALLY cash, concentrated cash in a syringe and inject it into the patient. South park will never get old as long as they keep the same writers it WILL remain the best adult cartoon ever.

      This.

Unfortunately I was so tired I clicked family guy instead of south park

Family guy is a rehashed, vulgar, less-intelligent version of the Simpsons whereas South Park never fails to provide original animation, storyline, characters, with wit and intelligence. All family guy does is variations of "and remember that one time..." allowing the writers to fill in the blanks with random scenes that have nothing to do with the plot.

One of my favorite episodes of south park is when cartman tries to get family guy taken off the air. It's a two episode show, fucking hilarious, Bart joins up with cartman to get rid of family guy.

      South Park is classic.

Man, I haven't watched either for a long time, but South Park was much more enjoyable to me. I was never bored watching South Park, while sometimes I got bored of Family Guy. South Park is a one of a kind show while there are a number of shows like Family Guy that are as good, if not better.

Well, I think that south park is way more intelligent then family guy. Sure, family guy can have its moments, but its just random crap. South park on the other hand has jokes that refers to the plot, almost all the time.
