      Best Final Fantasy game?

Which do you think is the best Final Fantasy, and why?

I like FF7, 11, Tactics, and Tactics Advanced.

Final Fantasy 7 was just great overall. I thought it had great characters and storyline.

I like 11 because playing Final Fantasy with a billion other people is great. I also like that it had a "single player" feel to it while still being multiplayer. It also had a great community. Also, Mithra.

I loved the characters in both Tactics and Tactics Advanced. I also like the way the battle system was handled. Plus you can get Cloud as a hidden character in Tactics.

Also, if you would recommend a Final Fantasy game to a friend, which one would you recommend?

      Number 8.

Expect to see a lot more people answering with the first one they played.

I can't say much--I've only ever played two of them. I started with FF, but quit after Marsh cave. I'm working on FF6, at the recommendation of a friend, and I'm kind of liking it.

      I liked 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10. If I had to pick one, it would be 6.

Also, 8 gets my "epic fail" award. It should have been called "Squall's lame sci-fi adventure 1."

I enjoyed Tactics Advanced. Likewise it was also the first I'd played.
Combat system was enjoyable, and the characters were of course fun as well.

Overall I would say FF VI. But i'm going to list the top three in different categories because I feel it's needed.

      Battle System
      1. FF VI Each character had their own special ability.
      3. FF X-2 Each character level up different jobs and switch on the fly.
      2. FF V Each character could level up different Jobs.

FF VI barely nudges out FF X-2s (I know...X-2 if they would have made a better storyline, it could have been a good game) battle system, because I like associating my characters with abilities. It makes them seem more like characters, and less like people who take up a spot in the battle.

      Storyline
      1. FF VI
      2. FF IX
      3. FF VII

FF VI's storyline is just more emotionally memorable than FFIX. FF VII's is good, but the main character just seemed too one dimensional.

      Replay Value
Honestly, they all fall short on the replay value. So I would assume FF XI has the most. Honorable mention would be FF IX. If you get through all the older final fantasies, playing this game would bring back a lot of nostalgia.

      Graphics
      1. FF X
      2. FF IX
      3. FF VI

X gets my approval because of the pre-rendered backgrounds. FF IX was the best looking FF on the PSX, and FF VI was the best looking FF on the SNES.

      Soundtrack
Anything that Nobuo Uematsu worked on.

      Overall
      1. FF VI
      2. FF VII
      3. FF IX

FF VI holds a special place in my heart because it was my first FF. After playing the others, it still holds up because of it's unique characters, soundtrack, and the battle system.

      Honorable Mentions
      1. FF X
      2. FF V
      3. FF IV

All three of those are worth mentioning, and playing.

      FF Related Games
      1. Chrono Trigger
      2. Kingdom Hearts (1 and 2)
      3. Final Fantasy Tactics

I cannot stress how epic Chrono Trigger is as a JRPG. Multiple endings with the same stats. A battle system that should have been used in FF games, and timeless sprite based characters. Kingdom hearts is good, but it cant match the reply value and storyline of Chrono Trigger.

With all of that said...Final Fantasy is a great series, and I love how each game offers something entirely new. I think it has something that everyone could appreciate.

FFVI. Basically, everything an RPG should be. B+ graphics, A storyline, A+ gameplay, A+ cast, and A+++ music (what I believe to be the very best of Uematsu's work). It's like the developers were presented a list of all the limitations of the SNES...and gave it the middle finger, going above and beyond what they had to work with to make a timeless classic.

...And yet FFVII still gets so much more recognition. Not only does it get a million spin-offs, but a movie and a rumored remake? Ain't no fucking justice in the world. No. Fucking. Justice.
      Final Fantasy VI Rules!

On the other side of things was one of first bad asses in a JRPG. How many times do we have to see a child save the world while thinking to ourselves, "man, I wish the other guy in my party was the lead character".

Final Fantasy 7 all the way.

I really liked 10 and 6, 9 was fine. I hated the story of 12, but other than
that it was fun as well. I agree that 8 was a little disappointing.

X-II I could not play for more than 30 minutes.

But seriously, on so many levels, FF VII I liked best !

that Had to be backwards. And Umber...that was an interesting read. Since I've been plowing through all the oldies, I'll probably pick that up and play it all the way through to get a better perspective on that.

I get burned whenever I say VII is my favorite...that is, until I admit to them that it was my first FF ~ cuz THEN, they give me slack, lol.

I've only played 7,8,9 (partially), 10, and 12 (partially). Didn't really want to risk my social life by getting into 11, lol...oh, and btw, I strictly stay away from WOW....

That's actually a really interesting theory! I hadn't thought of it. Still, I wish Squall would have dreamt up a non-shitty battle system. Playing that game was a huge chore. I should maybe replay it, with the knowledge that gaining experience early on == bad and just bumrush through.

The big redeeming factor was actually the music. FF8 had some of the best FF music as of yet. And the visuals were beautiful. The intro scene might have been the best of all FF games I've played.

Still, I just hated the lack of character development. The SeeD mission at the start, with the big robot spider and stuff, was awesome. The end of disc 1 and the first part of disc 2, as I recall, were a lot of fun. But anything after that was just... ugh...

It's interesting that the demo of FF VIII had that particular scenario in it. I can't recall what game it was that actually included the demo, but I remember that being on there.
