Meaninglessness.
It's a big problem, and not just for you, but for a lot of people.
Temporary fulfillment and entertainment are like painkillers. Temporary enjoyment helps to escape the pain, not take it away. It treats the illness, not the cause. If people go through life living each day as it comes, working, living a mundane life with no real meaning other than temporary enjoyment and escapism... what kind of a life is that?
So, what is the solution? Well, easy: Find a meaning. Find something to live for, to give your life meaning, something you can derive perpetual satisfaction and happiness from. A... "religion", if you will.
For me, that "religion" is history. At least, that's the main one. There are a few others unrelated and associated also. I was lucky, I had my "religion" discovered in high school, when my history teacher singled me out of the whole class, gave me extra assignments, made me work my ass off, etc. I wass kind of pissed off at him at the time, but, I saw what he was doing. It took me a while to realsie it, though, and what it meant.
The point is: you need to look at your life, what you have done, and figure out what it is that drives you, what makes you "click". Sometimes, somebody close to you will recognise it before you do. Other times, it takes a while to figure it out.
What can your religion be?
Well, it could be an actual religion.
Or a passion or talent, like history, art, writing, mathematics, science, etc.
It could be a person. Somebody to love, to live for and live with, to have a family with.
It could be a goal, like knowing as much about the world as you can, or helping people when they deserve it.
It could be a hobby. Like, lucid dreaming, etc.
But, don't look for it, or search for it. Just be more aware, watch yourself, your feelings, when you feel happy, and what makes you happy at those times. Try to find a pattern. Eventually, if you are aware of yourself and how your mind works, you'll figure out what makes you "click".
