Gang-rape Victim Sentenced to 200 lashes.

A Saudi woman had met with a man outside of a public mall to retrieve photos of her that were allegedly being used for blackmail. Upon this meeting, both the man and woman were abducted at knife-point and taken to another location where they were, subsequently, raped. The woman was raped by seven men, a total of (from my understanding) 14 times. After this incident, the woman was tried for violating Saudi laws that prohibit a woman from taking any meeting with any man outside the range of her family members or husband. She has received a sentence of 200 lashes with bamboo rods, as well as jail-time, for this infraction.

      CNN's take on it.
      FOX's take on it.

Does anybody want to try to take a guess as to why the Bush Administration is not publicly condemning this clear violation of human rights (which, of course, FOX tried to down-play)?

      Anyone?

      Something about religious freedoms?

Yeah I read about this. Her punishment was increased to 200 from 90 I believe because she pleaded her case in court, and the media got involved. She was accused of using the media as leverage and got a harsher punishment. So did the men, but really they should be facing the death penalty according to Saudi law.

Yeah, I remember seeing that on the (canadian news), Saudi Arabia is still so ridiculously backwards... Here's a quote from a post on another forum about the same subject:

Saudi Arabia has to be experienced to understand it.

We were working in S.A on three different occasions and stayed at the same hotel each time, from our room windows we could watch the beheadings every Tuesday and Friday morning.

Well, they're some of our president's friends, so we really shouldn't object. They're really rich, you know, and they have a lot of oil.

      This is an easy one.

Because we don't need to make Saudi look bad as justification for war, because we have no interest to go to war with them.

They still cut off hands for stealing in that country.

But our government is more concerned with pissing off turkey for something that happened almost 100 years ago.

Wow... that's so wrong. To punish the victim rather than the perpetrators. Or were the perpetrators punished aswell? I would not be surprised if they got away with it...

As for why the U.S. doesn't condemn it, Saudi Arabia is a good exporter of oil, so it is in the interests of the U.S. to not take actions that may damage their relationship with Saudi Arabia.

Very unfair still, but good that the perpetrators got punished at least.

No, it's not. This is sharia law, which means being beheaded for commiting a crime against religion. Like adultery. Or homosexuality. I wonder how they prove that homosexuality was committed with intent and, once that's done, prove that the guilty party chose to behave illegally when he (or she) had the freedom to be heterosexual. Oh yes. I remember. They mostly prosecute people who choose to wantonly act homosexual instead of repressing their sexuality for the rest of their miserable lives stuck in that country. Of course, if they're black, they also get the honour of being treated like shit the dog wouldn't look at.

It's sick. It's not schoolyard justice. If you give me a better explanation of it I could explain why. But there's a difference.

I heard about it when it happened. It's unimaginable. It's just horribly, terrifyingly unimaginable that an entire country runs on the holy law of a 7th century prophet.

Not only are they extremists, they are extremists with training and a lot of black gold supporting them. They send their imams all over the world. To America. To Britain. They get access to entire muslim communities. They are authority figures. People you would trust, people who can help. Community leaders. Ha.

And these community leaders, these people you should trust and respect and admire leech onto the communities they find and suck, slowly brainwashing everyone they can.

Britain is introducing a system of dealing with Muslims applying to enter the UK. They are going to give them "Britishness" tests. And the only people who will be exempt are, suprise, suprise, the imams.

They preach their word to the people. They say that America is the Great Satan. They say that Jews are responsible for the world's problems. I actually once found in a documentary style thing that someone claimed that pages of Saidia Arabias school textbooks dedicated themselves to explaining this.

And the imams say that it is glorious to die for your god. As we can see from the events of 7/7, someone obviously took this paticular message of god to heart.

I'd like to say that I don't have any problem with Muslims. I have a problem with extremists. Of all kinds. And I especially have a problem with extemists that kill other people who don't agree with them, force people to live the way they "should" be living (according the extremist's version of "should" and "living", of course) and terrorize or kill anyone they don't agree with.

And now? Now Holocuast-deniers are going to speak at Oxford. Tomorrow. In the name of free speech. And yet they have already threatened to kill several people who have spoken out against the lecture.

That doesn't sound like tolerant of free speech to me.

O yeah! My sister told me about this. I'm tired of those damn, corrupt Saudis, misrepresenting Muslims. They don't know crap and their extremism is making Muslims like myself look bad.

O btw, I'd really like to shove a gas pump up Bush's ass and see how he likes it. Greedy son of a bitch.

It's almost funny just how backwards and primative some of these countries are. Primative and barbaric. Thousands of years behind the west in human rights.

Wow. People complain about our law system sometimes, but that's nothing compared to this.
