      Vote Bob Barr!

Seriously. I'd like to see him in office. I knwo it really can't happen. But it would be nice. I hate a two party system...

I certainly don't agree with his more extreme platforms, but we all know that those are fairly inconsequential as we all know that he won't be able to 'get rid of the IRS' anyway.

The reason I'd like to see him as POTUS is because of all the candidates I really do see him fighting for states rights, scaling back of federalistic power, and not playing Big Brother.

Although de-regualtion and such is supposed to be supported by Republicans, such things have not been practices near to the degree that they should be by those conservatives. And the democrats in office openley support encroaching regulation.

Nixon, for example, took us off the gold standard partly so that the government could allegedley have more direct control of the cash influx. The Bush administration has taken it upon itself to trample all over state soveriengtey and make sure that they know as much about individual citizens as they can. Under Clinton, over-regulation of companies and corporations has played a large role in our economic fallouts of late.

We need someone that most people would find a little radical on the issues of federalistic power, de-regulation, and state rights. With someone pushing for perhaps too much on an issue, he may make some headway in the right direction as opposed to wishy-washiness on the republican side and outright opposition form the democrats.

I trust that Barr would try as hard as he can to get those things done when
      hardly anyone else will.

      BOB BARR!!!

You're about 200 years too late. The US actually was a confederacy for about 20 years, it collapsed, as it would do now. And for those calling it a revolution, you can't have a revolution that's supported by .5% of the population. Civil rights and women suffrage were revolutions.

Excuse me if I am way off here, but doesn't Bob Barr generally stand for what Ron Paul stands for (except in a less whiney tone of voice)?

      Captain Kurk
      Captain Kirk. Sorry...

My views are more moderate than Barr's and I certainly wouldn't call it a revolution. If you are reffering to the Articles of Confederation which failed because of no real federal power, now we are faced with the opposite problem. No case by case or subjective basis for the sake of the way laws work differently in different states, over-regulation, (from both major parties,) and lack of soverigntey.

Which is why I believe that it should be much more balanced than it is today. Shouldn't the combined power of the state congress' beat out that of national congress?

I'm no expert on Paul, but the libertarian party is alot closer to the Republican party than it is to the democratic, but more extreme on what they do or do not believe.

Barr is imperfect (voting record isn't the most pretty) but I'd love to see him in office.

Are you trying to be a master of dadaism or something? The Truly Senseless Thread is in Senseless Banter. The conversation you are trying to have with me should take place there. See you on the dance floor, Colonel Pumpkin Armadillo.

Bob Barr and Ron Paul are both libertarians (also in capital L in Bob Barr's case). Do you see the parallels? What are the big differences?

My bad. I was making fun of OD as if he was at a Star Trek convention, which I equated to a Bob Barr presidency. I don't really know about Bob Barr, but I've heard that he's essentially like the good doctor Paul.

The media tried to make Ron Paul look like Ross Perot to draw some association. He managed to replace Perot as the stereotype even though everything he says is spot on, so now people equate politicians with Ron Paul in order to draw the same association of failure.

There's no point, spockman. It's far, far, far too late for libertarianism. America must crumble before it can be rebuilt.

Those were the ones who fought, but most of the country supported the effort. No one supports the libertarians except for libertarians.

Lol, not really. I already told you, it was 1/3 For, 1/3 Against, and 1/3 apathetic.

So you're saying 1/3 of the population of the colonies rebelled in 1776 when the war was won?

But those more radical issues won't get done at all, no matter how hard our POTUS pushes for it. So really, they are non-voting issues to be. Rather, his pushing so hard for abolishment of certain programs or policies may achieve them to be scaled back.

That's wrong, drewmandan. Common Sense made a good impact on the undecided third (also on the loyalists). Also, the war wasn't won in 1776 bud. That's the year the Dec of Indepence was drafted.

Quite right. 1783. Anyway, if 1/3 were against they would have fought. If they didn't, they were also apathetic.

Except, that was a revolution against an overseas government that had very little time to prepare, and not much better military technology than the average citizen. Now we have an entrenched behemoth of a government with stockpiles of anti-civilian armaments waiting for anyone to step up. I'm not saying it can't happen; it will just take more than 4%.
