True, but there is a huge difference between "Cop-killer" by Ice-T and "I shot the sheriff" and "renegade" by Clapton and Styx.

No, you didn't call me racist. Omnius Deus did:
ously music for stupid people because it's made by black people and they're only good at playing basketball and selling drugs and have no value in society. Rap music reflects the deep design flaws in black society and their genetics in general proving their only proper place in a society is as slaves.

In the first place that's not what rap was. Rap started out as poetry being read over a beat.

Rap music just got popular, whenever something gets popular in america it goes straight to hell. Same thing happened to rock. Rock sucks nowadays, you gotta dig if your ever gonna find anything in this pile of shit.

Seems like most people in this forum are refering to gangsta rap, which is entirely different. Thats like saying rocks sucks because emo sucks.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

That is real music, generic rap that is popular now is not. I still hear that style every once in a while, but it's confined to new england coffee shops late at night and has become as elitist as foreign films and black and white photography. There was a great guy that I heard last time I was at Cornell, I think his name was Jimmy Soul or something like that.

I don't even like that.

I listen to stuff that sounds epic, not depressing or faggy. Poetry read to a beat is blfm.

Tell me this is feminine. You need to read poetry before you can determine that it's "faggy".

Right, from now on everyone should put their opinions in essay form.

It'll make it harder to sync to music, but at least roxxor wont be annoyed.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

When Seismosaur got his two week bann (before his perma) Roxxor started posting THE DAY AFTER Seis's bann. After Seis was allowed to return when 2 weeks were up, Roxxor stopped posting the day after. I and several others watched this. Now that Seismosaur is perma-banned, why is his alt being allowed to cruise the forums?

If A Roxxer is an alt of Seismosaur, he's savvy enough to evade the (admittedly, laughably foil-able) IP checks on the forum

Seismosaur seems to have access to various dynamic IP services (one's even a satellite broadband ISP)

A Roxxer seems to only connect through a single service (secureserver.net) - most likely tunneling from another IP

there's absolutely no way to know, though
(unless he slips up)

Gangster (gangsta) rap is very encouraging of terrible problems in society, it is extremely hateful, it is racist, it is homophobic, it is sexist, and it is sociopathic. However, if you take a step back and just see it as something like a twisted horror movie with characters acting like dumb ass psychopaths, it can be really entertaining. I don't take it seriously, and I think a lot of it is fascinating and hilarious. That is because I know how to view it as pure art. However, I do think that it has really bad effects on the minds of too many young people. But on the other hand, those same young people are easily shaped by it only because they are already so screwed up in the first place as a result of the very real things that is commonly thematic in gangster rap.

Heavy metal has a lot of awful themes too, but the themes concern such obscure horrors that very few people take the themes seriously. The death and outlaw themes in the music of Styx and Eric Clapton are taken seriously by about 0% of the listeners.

But it's all art. Just try to see it as art. Unfortunately, not all of the fans do.

Incorrect, rap is a sometimes more violent and reality based artform, just because rappers be rapping things doesn't mean they believe in such things.

Life is still full of hate, from people and sometimes rappers like to personify it.

I like universal minds comparison to horror movies, just an art form. Do we think people in horror movies are vulgar? They are playing characters on tracks instead of in a movie... It's that simple.

P.S. Black people call each other niggas all the time.. It's not only a derogatory term..

This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Wasn't there some big to-do where Eminem got into trouble for saying faggot so much (but not any of the other words?), and so to make amends he and Elton partied or something? I definitely believe that this occurred during my youth.

I dislike the majority of rap except where it's funny, or when I'm in the mood. But I was reading on CNN or some other website the other day about some guy who raps about the environment. Probably the worst result I've heard of from global warming My lily-white ass would take the badass mofo stuff over that any day. But just to throw it out there that, well, it is out there.

Yeah Eminem performed with Elton John partially to make amends for his usage of the word faggot. However, after the show he continued to use "homophobic" words in his songs proving my point. Nyah.

stonedape, that track is AWESOME

the problem with hiphop is that some texts are homophobic, not all of them, far from it. It's typical tunnel-vision. Dunt wurry, everybody's got it.

(I still listen to Parliament-Funkadelic. Hell, that's weird stuff xD)

As someone who is an affluent poet... get your head out of your ass, you fuckin' idiot. And that's not just because of what I quoted you for, it's because from your three posts in this thread I've already gained the awareness that you are an ignorant, whiny child. Get over yourself.

(Or if you're being a fruitless troll. Grow up.)

I agree with a lot of what Universal Mind said, especially when it comes to seeing the music as art. Whenever I listen to rap/hip-hop/whatever, I always listen for the different ways the artists spin words to rhyme with others and the different messages that can be interpreted (and I'm talking actual rap; Immortal Technique, Esoteric, Jedi Mind Tricks, Lupe, even some Circle of Tyrants songs).

I also agree that all the top ten hits nowadays are shit. But music is changing. Like the economy there are musical recessions and progressions - I believe we're soon approaching a musical change. Time for intellectual music once again.

No, but it has a lot to do with what else is pumped into society, through the media, and is huge reason why you made the generalization "rap is for the stupid."

The more degenerative rap is popular, the more of it gets expedited to the masses. The more of it that is shoveled out, the less of the alternative versions of the art-form are given attention. They, then, slip into obscurity and, eventually, you have people completely unaware of that other side jumping up with statements like "rap is for the stupid."

No way. I love Rock and Metal. Hence I hate rap and Country.
That's a stupid conclusion to draw, it's just being polarized... I can listen to Rap, Rock, Metal and Country.. Though less country than anything else.

Open your eyes, people become so dead set on their music being the only good kind and writing everything else off as trash. It's just obnoxious.

well he could be nicer bout it but i think what hes trying to say when he says he hates rap and country is that certain people prefer certain styles and rap, hip-hop and such are wholly different from rock and metal (cept for the fact that rock was started by black people). And i never understood why people say rap is all about hoes, booty, money, gangs and cars? why would you make that conclusion after watchhing BET or some other station that shows so much trash (like mtv) theres so much better stuff out there. thats like saying all videosgames are about money sex and violence afte watching someone play Grand theft Auto San Andreas, and saying wii sports is the same
