Alice in Wonderland is full of ingenious symbolism. Besides the fact that it already appealed to me from when I was little... more and more elements of the text became clear to me when I read it again later on.
Like the rabbit, a cowardly extremely anxious figure, could very well represent that side of adults and their obsession with time. Think about it, terms like spending time, wasting time etc. all link to one thing: money. Since when can something so precious become a currency?
It may have a peculiar sense of metaphor but I think the book just needs a different angle to be appreciated.
