      Black History Month is Racist

This is a commonly debated topic. Let's try it out, shall we?

Black History month gets a month to recognize the history of blacks. Does this mean other ethnicities are not of worthy recognition? What of the Chinese? Natives? Mexicans? Does the black race endorse the idea that they have suffered "more" than any other race? Is black history month truly just a month of racial edification?

Why is there not just an "American History" month with emphasis on certain topics? Why cannot history encompass all ethnicities?

I am not entirely sure how to feel on this topic.. but let us try to steer away from competing over ones martyrdom over others.

Now you will likely have a very strong opinion on this, depending on who you are. February spawns lot's of racial discussion, it would seem.

      What do you think...?

Everybody knows May is Mexican History Month.

Personally I really don't care. But don't flaunt your race with me, even if it's the same as mine. We're all still humans.

Black History Month began in America and is contained within America. It is based off of the history between whites and black and is pretty much a way of the Black History Month supporters apologizing to the blacks on behalf of the ones who oppressed them and acknowledging their importance?

I don't know, I just made that up.

Then it officially makes no sense. Not that it really ever did to begin with, I guess.

I would personally find a "Woman's History Month" a much more logical and reasonable recognition month than a specific race. Women have dealt with a lot more shit than any specific race, for obvious reasons. Only until the past 100 years do they reach a reasonable stance of equality still to develop.

Furthermore, the Chinese had a lot of shit to deal with in America too. Oh, and let us not forget the Native slaves too.

I thought this month was supposed to be about love, not race.

They should spend a month celebrating everything, Native American History month for one...
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Black history month doesn't bother me so much, but there are many other races deprived by the US in their past that could use a month.

Along with a Womans History Month someone said would be good, all the major suppressed should be talked about to avoid repeating it in the future.

Whats up, O'nus, get beat up by a black guy recently?

Black history month is racist, but it isn't for black people. Its for the ignorant white people who have ignored everything blacks have done in this country for the last 200 years. Its a time when us honkies are forced to learn about motown, peanut butter, Harriet Tubman etc. etc.

I don't think such events should exist. As has been said, it's full of contradictions. I'm generally completely against talking about a collective of individuals who only have race in common. Pure egalitarianism is the only stance that makes any sense.

I think we should simply celebrate individuals and groups on their merits. There are plenty of black people who have done good things over history, so simply educate ourselves about them and keep them respectfully in mind, just as you would any great person or group of people.

But don't celebrate a race as a whole, that's ridiculous. There have been just as many bad black people as there have been bad people of other races. To celebrate blacks as if they are some kind of homogeneous collective is wrong.

I honestly don't believe that is the point of Black History month, simply a widespread misinterpretation.

Which black people is it celebrating though? All of them?

I assume it's about slaves, in which case it should be a celebration of the black Americans' fight for equal rights. Which is of course a virtuous cause which should be celebrated.

But 'black history'... what is that?

I don't sense any sarcasm, white people(I AM ONE) are pretty ignorant.. some of them anyway.
