Debunking Third-World Myths With the Best Stats You've Ever Seen

Interesting video about poverty and child-mortality rates of various countries over the decades. The software he uses is pretty awesome.

That software is amazing. I would love to have access to all that data out there over the Internet like he is suggesting. There's tons of great statistical data out there that people should be able to get to easily. It makes sense that someone should make it accessible.

Awesome video. That guy has some really cool software, it would be cool it see it on a website and be able to fool around with it yourself.

Yes, there are some very cool talks at TED. One of my favorites is Malcolm Gladwell's talk on spaghetti sauce - a fitting followup to which is Barry Schwartz on the paradox of choice.

      *cough cough* Gapminder.org

He mentions it in the video.

I wouldn't say the video is mostly about "debunking" myths (that's only the intro so its a little misleading), but its more about really revealing statistics about the development and change of countries and helps us understand how we our dealings with countries must be "highly contextualized" as he says.
