      Schools that offer dream classes/programs?

      Hello everyone!

So, I've been thinking lately - dreams, they're pretty cool, yeah? It would be pretty cool to study them, since either way I'm going to end up having to study something I may as well study something that holds so much interest to me.

I was wondering if anyone knows about any schools that may offer a dream studies (something along those lines) BA. I've been looking, but every time I type in "dream" and "school" into google I just get a mesh of people rambling on about their dream school or whatever.

I think it would be really interesting to study more on the way our bodys/minds work during sleep, how different cultures around the world and throughout history have used dreams and interpreted them, dream interpretation, etc.

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Look into Psychology, its the only topic in school that touched dreaming and sleep for me.

Yeah. in my case it didn't touched dreaming as it should. It is "just a way for the brain to release stress, a form of unconscious imagination". Not very encouraging

Yeah, the thing is that I don't think I could sit through a bunch of Freud and stuff. I don't really care for much psychology, but the dream aspect would be the only thing drawing me to it.

Use the google scholar feature. Normally you can find some good papers by people to find out the science behind dreaming. For cultural variation on how dreaming is seen then I wouldn't know where to look. Try and make sure if you do use the scholar feature then make sure the paper is credited or cited. For a school of dreaming then psychology would not be the way to go. It sees it only as a way of practicing predator avoidance in a safe space and as a way of collating and sorting memories, which is correct, but is useless to a lucid dreamer. And it's an infintesimaly small part of the course anyway. If you wanted to study just dreaming there is not going to be a course for that I don't think. Hope I could be of service anyway though.

You could ask around at the IASD website:
International Association for the Study of Dreams [IASD]
Everyone I know through IASD is very nice, professional, and accommodating. I'm sure they would love to give you some advice on respected university programs.

      There is always:

I peeked in here out of my own curiosity if there were sleep/dream schools you could go to, and my suspicions that something like it exists, though I see those that exist are not very well known by any means.

You could also check out the Lucidity Institute. While it's not a school, it does put you in close proximity with those who are also interested in dreams.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

      Thanks for your replies!

I've definitely looked into the Lucidity Institute with Stephen Laberge. Despite how awesome it would be to fly out to Hawaii and do his lucid dreaming retreat, I would like to somehow incorporate dreaming into my degree.

Robot_Butler: Thanks for the website! I actually found some workshops on dreaming that are relatively inexpensive and in my area, which is pretty exciting! And Stanford - let's see what I can keep my gpa at
