Has this ever happened to you?

Today my mom woke up at 6AM, she was going somewhere 3 hours from where I live. She woke me up around 8 (She was being REALLY loud). I couldn't get back to sleep so I got up. At around 10 I decided to try having a small nap, since I heard lucids are more common during naps. Seeing as how my blinds suck and let in so much light, I went into my basement to sleep on the futon.

I brought my dream journal and a pen and placed it on the bed beside me. I knew I was going to have trouble getting to sleep, so I buried myself in the blankets and tried as much as I could to not move, repeating stuff like "I'm a lucid dreamer" in my head. I also thought I'd try something random, just for the hell of it. I held a small, rubber pokeball (Haters gonna hate) in my hand, put my arm on a pillow and tilted it sideways. I told myself that, I would have this ball in my dream and if it left my hand I would do a reality check. Silly, I know.

And then that familiar state happened. The state where I can see dream images (which are not very vivid and make no sense at all), yet can still slightly feel my body. In the unclear dream image I was able to see, I looked like I was 13 again. I had the Pokeball and was running around a grassy area with my friend Melissa. She said, "Throw the ball!". So I did. You're going to think I did a reality check. No, I didn't.

My real arm flung across the bed and woke me up. It startled me and I jumped up in bed.

Has this ever happened to you? It disappointed me, because I felt it was about to work :/

You were in the middle of a WILD. A wake induced lucid dream. The dream images you saw were created in your mind, also called hypnagogic images. Since you weren't in sleep paralysis, and you weren't fully transitioned in your dream, you swung your normal arm AND your dream arm, waking you up.

..Huh, that actually makes me pretty happy. I do believe I've reached SP before, and had these images a lot. But never both of them at once...

..It was scary, but at least I know what happened now. Thank you!

      No problem.

Interesting how you have never reached SP and hypnogogia at the same time though.

What I meant was, I just see my dream starting. It's not very clear, though.

That has happened to me before. I was trying to go to sleep but I was having dreams, but barely able to affect it at all and without SP. When this happened to me I was in a very low state of consciousness, so I couldn't stop them from happening and stopping myself from falling asleep like that. They can be annoying, but eventually they stop.
