Perhaps it's because, with the power of our mind, beauty can be personally mastered to our own preferences in dreams. Dreams are famous because they give us the potential to construct perfect harmonies and utopias that follow our unique preferences. That's why it's so affective upon us after waking, because the real world very rarely offers such accurate favors. So, most likely, you experienced a mastery of beauty that cannot be experienced in waking life, and even in dreams it does not occur often.
For example, I have a liking for forests, and I occasionally dream walking through a spacious forest, populated with grandfather oak trees. The beauty of it is astronomical and is something I will probably never see in real life. These experiences are what make dreams... dreams.
