The ocean...it kills me

Anyone else have a problem with oceans in their dreams?

I frequently have dreams in which I am near or on a beach, and every single time I look at the ocean the waves start getting bigger. Eventually I am being sucked out into unrealistically huge waves, and managing maybe one breath between being dragged through the water like a rag doll. I usually become lucid in these dreams, and I just wake myself up, because I find myself unable to escape the waves even when lucid.

any ideas as to why?

Dude I have these dreams too.

Being helplessly sucked out into an ominous expanse of water, by a riptide or a strong wind. Always a very dark dream...

But now that I think about it, it's been a long time since I've had one

I had a dream about the ocean a while back similar to this. I didn't get pulled in but instead I entered the water and immediately became paralyzed and had to be dragged out of the water. Who knows what the heck made me dream of that.

Possibly when oceans are in dreams, they become a negative aspect of the dream because oceans are so enormous to the point that they can be intimidating. The things that live in the ocean can be harmful. Etc.

That's just a simple theory. I've never given it much thought but now 3/4 people in this thread have had an ocean give off a negative effect in a dream. I'd like more people to post and see if there's a pattern to this. Not for anything serious, but just personal amusement and interest.

If you think about it for a minute, I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out for yourself, just consider what it could represent in relation to how you're currently experiencing life. If you're still not sure why, then I'll explain, but it's better if you try to understand your own dreams first.

I've read in dream dictionaries that water is a symbol of emotion and stuff but I've found that once you 'think' that's what its a symbol for then it becomes that symbol...haha.

But anyway...I've had lots of bad trapped under water dreams and got around them by teleporting myself into underwater facilities and things. My sister lucid dreams too and is trying to teach me how to breath underwater... she grows gills. Haha.

But I think you just figure out a 'way' that you wouldn't be scared near or in water in your dreams and then try to remember it when it happens again.
