      What is a dream guide?

I've heard a few refferences on here about "dream guides". So, what is a dream guide and what does it do?

A dream guide is a sort of mentor in your dreams. They often teach you about dreaming or life in general. Some people feel that they are supernatural or whatever, too.

I remember reading about Dream Guides in DV, if you're referring to dream guides in our dreams. Here's the thread that I've read before: http://www.dreamviews.com/f14/findin...e-3-1-a-32145/

Basically I believe dream guide acts as a bridge between your conscious and unconscious. Your dream guide will know everything about you since it lives within you and live life together with you. If you managed to find your dream guide in your dream, it'll be more than just another DC because other than knowing everything about you, it'll be able to help you to solve your immediate problem in life too. Your dream guide can come in any form, male, female or a creature or even a mixture.

If you believe in it, it'll exist. If you don't, it wouldn't. After all that is what you want from yourself.

That's what I was reffering to, thank you.

Some people believe dream guides are a creation or projection of your own mind that speaks for your unconscious, like Carrot is referring to. Others believe it is an outside entity entering your dream to teach or guide you, possibly for motives of their own.

Personally, I believe both types of DGs exist. IMO, the projection of your own unconscious type of DG are more common as anyone skilled enough enough in dream control and with enough intent could find/create this type of DG. I believe the outside entity DG to be more rare. Perhaps this is based on intent as well, if you seek a DG to train you in dream skills beyond your own knowledge, your intent draws an outside entity to you.

Having crossed certain border/tréshold of dreaming the wondering is who are dreamguides and who are projections of my (/your) mind,, or memories of me or someone else. For me this has been true for both shuteye dreaming and waking hour-dreams. Guides are figures, creatures, characters or humans who can grasp the thought that dreaming is dreaming when it is and/or teach you+ something about yourself, something you could / could't do befor or experience that then.

Once I used given term in a token respective status for friends and loved ones who could do this

I have heard from my older sister that her's appears in a different form every time but the person that is with her has the same familiarity to them, it once guided her in a dream more than other times appearing as a purple amorphous levitating blob. I think I might have two or three, one being a boy the others being girls. The boy always appears with black hair that is left down trimmed, wears a navy blue t-shirt, often times a jacket of some kind over it (open to reveal t-shirt), and normal jeans, he is taller than I am and has deep blue eyes. I can recognize his voice and appearance, he has appeared three or four times. The first, a very shot dream with no talking a long time ago, second (more recent) in a dream where a tonic turned people into walking skeletons that would kill (more on this later), and third his voice was faint but in the backround before starting a role playing dream (more on this as well)

When he appeared the second time he told me at the beginning that zombies were appearing, after a hiker and a younger boy said that they healed themselves with tonics after attacks from the zombies, the boy disappeared, and the hiker walked into another room where he shook wildly, and his skin evaporated off of his body to leave just a walking skeleton. I said to my DG, "the tonic turns them into zombies!" And then my DG said "hold on, we are going backwards into the dream" (meaning, go back in time) he pushed some buttons on this little square remote-like object he was looking at earlier and pressed a big red button on it, a flash happened, and I woke up

The other DG is a blonde girl who keeps her hair shorter (like Daisy on the movie The Great Gatsby) she wears a headband and a multicolor dress that looks like a bunch of colored stripes put together in a teselation, from what I gather, this DG has a crush on me (one she told me when she first appeared, two she acts a lot like it) in the role playing dream, before it, she told me about how i was going to do that dream, then before it happened, (the dream when I actually do it) there was black all around me and she was talking to me on what sounded like an intercom like at a school. She told me one second, and I heard the male DG saying, "that button, then that one" guiding her through something (I am guessing the remote-like box thingy) and I asked who was there and she said no one, after the dream started (with a flash) she would make the world still and slightly grey to give me tips every now and then, the odd thing was that I was role-playing normal life as a girl, this must be one of those life lesson dreams.

Dream guides are cool dudes/dudettes that help you in your dream. I have yet to meet one, but I think that instead of waiting for one I'll just create them.

A few years ago I had the most awesome ride with my dream guide. I started the dream feeling really troubled, the next thing I know I am in the sky and this amazing flying oriental dragon cross shaggy creature from the Never ending story looks down at me with this huge grin. I am flying next to him and have this incredible feeling of peace I never could have believed existed. He had these huge flappy ears and had a white coat like a shaggy wolf hound. I'll never forget that dream. I'm not sure I believe in astral travel, but if I did I just met the coolest dude around to hang out with!

What is the difference between dream guides and visitations?

A dream guide tells you first pretty much if not simply "you are in a dream" and start teaching you how to control dreams, a visitation is being with a dream entity of some sort, I am starting to believe after a lot more visits that the blonde girl my age, who is named Jessica, is more of a visitor, but the boy, who is named Max, is more of a dream guide. Besides, Jessica has something about her that makes her seem almost, real...

The dream controller with buttons is a great image!

Do you think she could be a dream persona of someone you know? People can take on different faces in dreams.

I've had the experience of people I would call guides, people somewhat in control of the dream experience I am moving through, but they don't announce to me that it is a dream, it's as if they have this secret and sense of waiting that I have to figure it out. When I realize I am dreaming it is usually on my own, right now I don't recall anyone telling me that is.

Then there are those who visit and have messages or wisdom, or gifts, they don't feel so much like my internal dialogue and archetypes, actors in the story... or that they are in control of the story, but they feel like outsiders. Also there are those who seem to be there more for their own agenda, not necessarily bad, just communicating. I see a difference between having a dream 'about someone' and someone 'being in my dream'.

Very interesting topic - I'd like to know, how many people have cultivated an actual dream-guide, who stays consistent and coherent over different dreams.
Who seems to have a mind of it's own, and who can seriously act as a source for the dreamer.
Almost worth a poll, I think - might do that.
I can well imagine, that something like this emerges autonomously - but I plan on actively "constructing" one, once I become more proficient in LDing - much more proficient in actual fact.
Bit like splitting away a personality from the fold of your mind, which would have to have some neural basis of it's own, I guess, it's own set of circuits to be reactivated and "evolving" on it's own. Nothing speaks against it from a scientific viewpoint, I think - at least nothing obvious.
I've been having an answering post in the pipeline for the tulpa-creation thread - it's going to take a while longer, till I post that. I am thoroughly fascinated by the phenomenon - esp. in the "lower level expression" of only in dream existence.
It's justifiable to call it heavy-duty stuff, hard to believe and hard to read at times as well.
Plus I almost feel, as if I could tempt people into doing things, they haven't thought through properly.
But for those willing to check it out - on the second page, I start asking for dream-guides, seen from that perspective:

Funny you should mention dream mentors.

I had one many many years ago when I was a little nipper, who resembled Jiminy Cricket (obviously on a larger scale!!)... I could tell him what I wanted to dream, and usually always did (could be called a Lucid dream)
