      Choking in dream

Well...not sure if it was a dream or sleep paralysis but I was basically struggling to fall asleep, turning around in bed untill I finally fell asleep, 2-5 mins later I "Woke up" feeling my body shake all over and I was paralysed(Kinda like before you'd go into a lucid dream I guess) and I was calm and didn't move, after about 1 minute I felt like something moved slowly from my chest to my neck and then I suddently couldn't breathe anymore I struggled, moving my little finger to get out of the sleep paralysis if it was that, I could move it barely but it wouldn't stop, untill after some time of choking I just "Woke up" as if nothing happened, as if I was never choked or anything. This isn't exactly the first time it happened, it happens atleast once every 2-3 weeks I think, It started about a year and a half ago after someone lying to me about something. Does that mean anything? And is there any way to stop this from happening? Cause it's scary as heck when you can't breathe. >_<

I remember one dream where I was walking down a hallway with a red-head lady, and just randomly, I couldn't breathe. I'm on my knees, and I start putting my right hand on my heart, and I looked at the lady to the right of me to see if she was a succubus, since the last time I was near just one red-headed female, she tried to suck the life out of me.

I woke up, and I think I coughed a bit. I wasn't sure if it was built up saliva from lying on my back, but it most likely was. I guess a way to prevent that from happening is try to sleep on your side next time. Though that doesn't rule out the chance of you rolling over to lie on your back. Maybe keep your room well ventilated, maybe it could be the lack of air flowing through and the temperature.

Could it be respiratory issues? If not, it could mean you might have to drink some water to prevent having a dry mouth during the night.

It's proabbly sleep paralysis. Either that or you dreamed you were choking. Protip: dreams aren't real.

It happened again just a few minutes ago, thoo this time it didn't look like stuck to bed sleep paralysis, this time it was in a middle of the dream (That happened 10 minutes into my sleep and not 4+ hours lol)

I basically dreamed I was with my boyfriend and after a while he said he's gonna go take a shower, I knee'd down in the room where the bathroom is and watched him go into the room, I waited there a bit untill I noticed a sign with words written on it, when I started reading I felt my body feel paralysed (In knee'ing stance) and some light thing around my neck, at first I just tried moving my pinky to get out of it (As apparantly at this point I got lucid enough to feel my body and everything but not think straight) I don't remember what the sign said but it made me feel sad and it felt like a message from my boyfriend, at that point the feeling got more intence and then with my mind I changed the text on the sign as if asking "Do you love me?" I got a reply "I don't" which made me a bit more sad but didn't affect me too much cause I knew a "I adore you!" was coming afterwards but, the moment "I don't" appeared the feeling around my neck suddently got intencer and wrapped around my neck fully and it felt like someone had a knot on the rope thingy and was pressing it harder, and thus choking me, the reply "I adore you!" did come on the sign as I managed to read it while choking but...I couldn't do anything anymore with the sign and just wanted to get out being choked and paralysed, after some time I woke up ON MY SIDE(So no I wasn't on my back) and I still felt a slight feeling of something around my neck but after a bit it faded away...

I know dreams aren't real...but it really isn't nice when you feel actuall feelings of being strangled...it hurts x_x So is there any way to stop this?

I think on both occasions I felt lonely during that day (Thoo not at the time I went to bed as I was happier there) but I doupt just lonelyness would make me have that kind of a dream :c

Hmm the only thing i can think of is to relax when it happens. I am referring to the paralyzing moment you mentioned in the first post btw. You already know it's not real, and that it's in your mind, and that it wont hurt you physically. But try to relax and focus on something else when it happens? I've learned that when you focus on it, it would get worse because you're putting attention into it. You can also try to turn it around, imagine it to turn into something pleasant. If your chest gets tight, imagine sinking into the bed and "backing up" from the thing applying pressure to it. You might even get lucky and end up in a lucid dream! If you feel someone choking you, imagine their hands or the rope going through your neck, and that you can phase throught it.

      Good luck

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
