I have lived in three countries in my life, and I know that at some point in my life I used to dream in Polish, then in German, and now all my dreams are in English. I do not remember when I switched from German to English. I don't think i actually noticed when it happened. It was not a noteworthy event. Of course, by the time I started seriously looking into my own dreams the final language switch had already taken place, so it happened before I started observing my dreams. I believe though that my subconscious does not care which language it expresses itself in, which ever is most convenient and on my mind, I guess. However, that's my subconscious, yours might care deeply since it is different from mine - only you can know the answer as it applies to you. |

You may say I'm a dreamer.
But I'm not the only one - John Lennon
^That's it. I speak 4 languages (three of them quite badly, but my unconsciousness seems to feel more confident about them than my conscious self whatsoever), and it's quite usual to dream in any of them, mixing languages depending on the "scene" or fragment, or even dream character. I wouldn't look upon it as a problem, on the contrary. Your brain's interpretation is essentially the same. |

If you're unsure, why not right in both--German first, then English? Can't hurt anything, right? |

~ until the very end
I speak Spanish, English and a bit of French, and I usually dream in Spanish/English, but sometimes I even dream in French (even though I'm not very good at it lol). With French for example, I seem to speak it better in my dreams than in real life, I guess it's probably because I'm more confident with myself and don't get as nervous as real life |

I've occasionally dreamed in Spanish, or there have been moments in dreams where I just randomly switched from English to Spanish ... Anyway, in answer to your question, I think you should write down your dreams in whatever feels most natural to you. As sploddeymissle said, I don't think it will really make a difference; what's most important is the content, and not necessarily what language it's in. I also like CNGB's suggestion of just writing it down in both, if you're unsure. |
