      Reality check

      Hi.

First let me apologize if this is a matter posted in the wrong area.

My question is, while doing reality checks, should we stop everything we are doing or can we perform a reality check throughout everyday events, while we proceed with our daily actions?

atleast at the beginning to stop or atleast to slow down is really helpful/important.
The reason we do RC during the day is not (like some might think) that it bleeds into our dreams and we do them there randomly but to heighten our critical awareness, look around and really really consider if we might be dreaming and try to prove it (not vice versa: you try to prove you are Dreaming and not to prove you are awake btw.)
when you just do them quickly without much effort like "i look at my hand yea looks like normal but sure i know i am awake so..." this wont bring anything and is a waste of time. the best thing that might happen to you is that you dream of doing a realitycheck and it will fail or you wont reflect the result.

therefore you want to stop or slow down to really take a look and consider and let your awareness rise and try to stay up for some time after the RC.

when you turn it around you could say atleast the "typical" RC during the day are not necessarily important as long as you raise your critical awareness during the day and ask yourself am i dreaming?
Because in dreams your awareness rises until a point where you say wait something is odd and THEN you do a RC to confirm it not the other way round

hope i could help. if something is unclear ask again and i will try with other words

I used to try pinching myself in a dream to reality check but since I feel pain in my dreams it did not work. Then I tried a gravity check by jumping up and seeing how long it takes to land...but its awkward to do in waking life. Then I tried checking to see what time it was on my phone..but I would never have my phone on me in the dream so it didn't work. Finding the right method or tool to use is a lifestyle change because you have to constantly do it, everyday. Keep it simple because it has to be something you can do easily and not draw attention to yourself.

Try flipping a coin. Its something you can do anytime, and it tests gravity, probability, and physical sensation all at the same time. Its not a totem that you have to fear losing and if you always carry change in your pocket then odds are it will probably be there in a dream. Probably.. Good luck with it.

I practice awareness and meditation. Besides that i do reality checks, both physical and psychological. I started my dream journal, meditation and awareness 19 november, this year. Didnt had a lucid dream yet. But i already met a dream guide and have a recurring dream character, and another one who said i was about to have a nightmare, and i did. So i dont know if im heading in a good direction...

There is a movie i recommend to everyone starting out. Its called "Waking Life" and its filled with information about dreams. You can watch it online. Just Google it. You will find it entertaining and helpful.

Thanks for your time recomending the movie. I already saw it, and its full of references and hints. And i have little knowledge about the oniric world, so my guess is that if in a few years i rewatch the movoe i will find alot more info.
