Hands reality check AND nose check don't work (anymore)

So my favorite RC (which I voluntarily got addicted to), the hands is giving me false positives (happened twice in two lucid dream attempts in a row).
Not only my dream hands do count five fingers and are crystal clear, but they even have temporary skin marks I got.
Nose RC doesn't work too, can't breathe when I do it.
I had a false awakening, heard footsteps, it was 3:00 AM, my mom just came back from some place for some reason. I RC with my hands and nose, BOTH are false positives, I go to sleep and get to dream in a dream, and almost fell asleep once more in this level 2 dream before my alarm clock woke me up.
      What to do?

I am always using the pinch nose check and it is the most effective for me. But you could try many others like read a sentence twice or watch a clock.

The clock read 3:00 AM and it was night time. Pretty acceptable.

You have to check the clock twice.
Usually the clock won't show the same hour twice.
You look at it...3am...Then close your eyes. look again 9:45. See what I mean.

It was my iPod touch (digital) clock, I always keep it next to my bed.
Okay, I'll try this next time.

      Clearly lies and propaganda.

But seriously, try jumping out a window next time.

Works for me more often than not.

That is frustrating. Sometimes you are just screwed no matter what you try.

Happened to me that my nose check didn't work but it works like 95%.
The jump out the window check is a classic. Best way to learn to fly.
Now hope you are in a dream while you are falling...

I was just going to post a topic about this same thing!

Last night I pinched my nose atleast 5 or 6 times (in the dream), and I couldn't breathe in any of them. Then I looked at my hands, which started to get very thing, I got scared, and looked away lol. I looked at my hands again in the next dream I had, but they didn't change at all. But I guess that it is progress considering I've never done an RC before in my dreams.

Now, having read this and similar threads on physical RC and knowing that even such a reliable thing as nose pinch can fail, I go back to concentrating on mental reality checks and developing lucid dreaming mindset...which is so difficult, especially because I have terribly bad short-term memory in terms of remembering "how I got here" and "what was I just doing". Sometimes when I watch TV show or a film, even if I'm really interested in it, as soon as commercial starts I forget what I've been watching for the last hour, so I have to ask someone about it...friends and parents think it's funny tough

Do you know how you can improve this?

Not really...I'm trying to work on my awareness constantly, but it's not the same, I guess... Those, at the first sight simple and obvious questions take a lot of efforts to answer. It's strange though, because I have good overall memory - long-term and short-term, when it comes to studying, for example.
Do you know any ways to fix it maybe? It's getting frustrating

Have you tried to remember things from the end to the beginning?

Yes, that's what I do. I remember last action, feeling, thought, whatever and then follow to the reason of that. Otherwise it's almost impossible to remember...

I have no idea about any of this, but maybe you should try believing in the chance that you can breath through your nose, this is always possible.

Flip light switches or look through a book.

If you're having trouble using a RC, try switching over to another one for a few days then going back to the same ones as before. You may just be getting used to them. Doing what I said should give your mind enough time to be able to do these RC's again.

Think reason for that being is most of us do reality checks mindlessly, without really coming to thought, and questioning if we are awake
The idea is to remain in a constant state of departure while always arriving..

I think the nose pinch is unarguably one of the best reality checks....well for at least the majority of dreamers on here.

I've been doing nose pinch RCs because it's the best RC of all till I had a LD a few weeks ago - I had FA and then did nose RC as normal, but IT DID NOT WORK so I just went to bed and passed out
when I woke up I was so frustrated that my nose RC didn't work and changed to clock RC and remembering-back-RC....and few days later when I had LD again I could reality check propety with these of course the nose RC worked again

I think that you should expect it to work. You have to think and imagine that it will happen. If you pinch your nose, really think about being able to breathe. If you poke your hands, really imagine them going through. I also had this problem after a few weeks of lucid dreaming, and I was told it would greatly help if you put much thought and expectation into it.

I also like doing the rechecking of the time or rereading of text for my RC. But instead of just looking away and back again, I look away and try to will the number/text to change into something of my preference. This has worked really well for me so far. Good luck to everyone!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
