Why start something that your going to quit, it doesn't make sense. How long have you been practising? Do you enjoy your practices? If not change them and make them fun, the more fun you make the practice the more you forget about how long it's going to take.

Even if you dont have a lucid dream, take note of your Non Lucid Dreams, they are just as important.

No longer trying may actually be a good thing, ironically. I believe trying too hard to get somewhere can often make reaching the goal more difficult, as you begin to focus more and more energy on the wrong things. There's no shame in stopping, so why not see where it takes you? However, still be mindful of your dreams and your progress. You may think trying has been a waste of time, but I'd say the bigger waste of time would be to just give up completely, as all of that time and energy you spent would have gotten you nowhere, and any progress you did make, no matter how small, would be lost.

What helps for me is to perform my reality checks and stay aware of my surroundings throughout the day, but one thing that really helps is to really take an interest in your dreams themselves. Even if you don't have lucids, if you're interested in your dreams, constantly recording them and you think about them often, then the rest can come along naturally.

miktux, I'm happy to hear you had a lucid dream! If you're a beginner it will be best to take it easy until you got a reasonable amount of lucid dreams before trying anything too hard. Recording your dreams and having a lucid dreaming mindset is all you need to have a lucid dream so don't feel like you have to do anything that feels uncomfortable or doesn't work for you!

Remember that Stress is a huge deciding factor when it comes to dreams. If your stress levels are becoming heightened because of your LD Practices, (Or from anything really) this will hinder your progress immensely. Try to make your practices fun or less stressfull as others have mentioned.
