do you mean having ADD in LD's? i know for me when i become lucid it sure seems like i have ADD.

but i agree. to focus one's attention to specific things in an LD can yeild great personal control.

Absolutely! I think we are facing our ability to concentrate most directly IN lucid dreams. The ability to enhance the vividness or participate in the dream is a result of our concentration and I only wake up upon losing this ability to concentrate and control.

exactly! this is what I've been telling people when they look at their hands to stabalise the dream: is to not just stabalise the hands but every object.

I use to have a system for this. i would start with my hands, then pick a few other objects in my periphials. I would concentrate on each one individually for a second or so.

it would be like hands, dc, building, dog, hands dc, building, dog. i would do that until the objects all stayed stable. What this did for me was increase the vividness of the dream. and gave me a feeling of exhileration that i could do anything!!!

Yeah, it sure feels like ADD in lucids. I've noticed some similarities to the way I do Reality Checks. When I actually do remember to do them, I'm always slightly disappointed I didn't remember to do one sooner, and I completely forget about it once I'm done.

What I've been trying to do lately is prolong my reality checks. Instead of simply doing whatever technique and moving on, I keep looking for signs that it may be a dream for extended periods of time. I can barely keep it up for 5 minutes, but I'm hoping this will help counteract my lucid mental deficiencies.

To shift directions: does anyone here take Adderall/Ritalin? Or what are people's opinions on ADD medication?

I personally don’t like any kinds of drugs.

ADD is a manifested form of not getting the proper attention at a very young age turned into a cyclical way of thought. Some children need more attention then others and they begin to act up when they gain a sense of self. By attending to the unconscious need of attention at a young age and quelling it from the very get go, you keep the need for attention later on at bay allowing them to focus properly. It’s basically an anxiety at work, and the notion of loving yourself first before others is fulfilled killing ADD all together.

This can be seen between cultures. As Asians who usually attend to there child the most usually have very low rates of ADD. And it is much higher in unstable families. Stress and anxiety in the womb from the mother also can affect ADD, by stressing out the developing cells of the baby prematurely which affect the babies unconscious need for attention, this is also why people think genetics play a role, which is only assumption, but in my opinion is not true. This doesn’t have to be so if the right conditions are present before and after birth.

The reason why I don’t like drugs is because you are adding an external application to create a temporary change in mood. And this in affect tires out the cells and ages them as the body works towards getting rid of the foreign substance. And really makes them more fragile then they were before. Not to mention it makes you feel high which isn’t good. You want to fix ADD at the source, lots of love, stability and spending time with your children to offset the trend of ADD. It won’t happen over night, but it will happen. ADD is much like feeding somebody who is hungry. If food is constantly there the patient will eat it really fast but slowly realize that it isn’t necessary to do so, and will calm down. Same with the brain as it is very dynamic feed the unconscious need for attention and reorganize current cyclical trends and the mind will sort itself out. In fact it really wants too. You just have to show it the way.

While I would agree that ADD can be caused by not recieving the proper care as a child, to pinpoint this as THE cause or even the primary cause is an oversimplification. Just a few more examples: In certain innate dispositions that are generally reported as schizoid, (not too uncommon these days) a mother who shows TOO much care or is smothering can cause symptoms of ADD. And many toxins that a fetus or even infant/toddler are exposed to can also contribute towards ADD.

I would agree that generally "concentration drugs" are far too oveprescribed, especially when you consider the the long-term effects that these have. While properties outside that of a pure stimulant, I would still group them somewhere between coffee and speed. So of course being medicated will lead to habituation, a lessening of positive effect, and a increased dependency over time. I imagine we have yet to see much larger numbers of prescription burnouts than the public is made aware of.

Still, in some severe types of ADHD, taking the drug makes the neurons start to fire in a more directed and less chaotic manner. This actually changes the brain over time to become more organized (you've heard of plasticity right?). Studies have shown that in some cases, the individual can then concentrate better even after they stop taking drugs.

And of course we all have to struggle with the limits of our own concentration, and I think that for those who choose to push their limits, meditation is one of the best methods.
