My mother is jealous cause she has nightmares and wishes she could LD. But she is doing so much in her life rigt now...to learn how to LD would be overlaod for her, as we all know it takes some people a long time to learn (I think those who take longer to learn are amazing for sticking to it), My father has had them all his life, not really on purpose, but he's one of those, I am gonna do whatever I want people. He doesn't remember his dreams though that often.

My friends are just like...ok thats nice...etc.

I think most of my friends are like whatever cause they don't get why its interesting. So you have hallucinations? thats nice...Is pretty much their mentality. I actually heard the word "lucid dream" from one of my friends...she's one of those paganistic people. She converted from christianity to like a mix between druidic and some other religion X.X. I don't think its wicca though. (I wonder why so many teens are attracted to Wicca...)

I talk to my little brother about it all the time (he's only 14 months younger than me). He thinks I'm a little crazy but he's cool with it for the most part. I was "forced" to mention it to my dad because I forgot I had a subliminal messaging program running on his computer and he got all freaked out thinking it was a virus so I explained lucid dreaming to him a little bit. He really didn't care too much as long as I removed the program. No big deal though, it's on my own computer. My mom doesn't know because I haven't told her and neither do either of my sisters.

I've mentioned lucid dreaming to a couple of my friends. Both of which have made some attempts at it. One of these friends tends to smoke a little too much pot so his dream recall and motivation really aren't complete. My other friend gave up on it after one night of failure.

don't care anymore what friends/family think

I've been studying lucid dreaming for about fifteen years, but I've been interested in or studying dreaming for as long as I can recall.

At first, when I told my husband I wanted to buy a NovaDreamer, he just humored me. My interests have always been eclectic and often esoteric...he thinks this is cool, but he also knows I'm a little flaky - by my own admission

My sister and one of my cousins find the idea of lucid dreaming fascinating, yet have never tried it.

One of my husband's friends was interested enough to borrow some of my books on the subject.

But unfortunately, most of my extended family thinks I'm just immature, wasting my time on yet another silly idea. I don't even try anymore to discuss the concept with them. In fact, I have one sister who keeps telling me that something is wrong with me because she is sure that people are not even supposed to remember their dreams! I don't know where on earth she got that idea. (Of course, this is the sister who actually lectured me one time about me taking anti-depressants. She used herbal remedies at the time and had this holier than thou attitude about the whole thing. She never considered that my degree of depression might possibly have been more severe than hers. Now, years later, she's on Wellbutrin. )

These days I only bring up the subject with friends if I know they are open-minded or if the subject of dreams comes up in conversation. I discuss it often with my children. A lot of times, we'll spend dinnertime sharing our dreams.

Why expose myself to ridicule or closed-minded ignorance if I don't have to? I shall believe what I choose to believe and no one has the right to judge me or my beliefs.

This is one of the reasons I am so glad to have found a forum like this one where I can share my experiences, my beliefs and theories, with other people who are like-minded.

I'd like to thank all of you who post here on these boards and share your experiences, as well as your knowledge and advice.

I consider my mom to be a master at lucid dreaming - and she had never heard of the term before I started learning about it! In recent months I've really been amazed after talking to her about this type of stuff, and I had never known much about her in this regard until I got serious about Buddhism. She can practically have an OBE at will and has been following her dreaming for many years. She's told me about shapeshifting into a bird and exploring caves in Arizona and things like that, and it's pretty funny because sometimes she'll talk about her long lucid experiences the morning after like they were a chore and she would rather just rest, while I'm in awe and wishing I was that advanced. She's really helpful though because she reminds me to be patient and to treat it as a life-long process.

Now for my friends, one was very skeptical and thought LDs were like day dreams, but he actually had one and now knows how incredible they are. It's interesting though, how most people really don't care when you mention lucid dreaming to them, even though in my opinion it's the most fun you can possibly have as a human being. Oh well.

? Had he never had a dream before? Lol why did he think it was like day dreaming? Hehe I love the kinds of things people come up with to understand lucid dreaming when they've never had it before.

One of my friends I know has LD's sometimes and we chat about it sparingly when it comes up, my cousin has LD's, and my little sister has dreams, but not really LD's.

Anytime I start talking about a dream I had my dad goes "Oh geez here goes again with his crazy dreams" and leaves the room, my Mom kind of tunes me out, and my other sister listens she might be interested, but she doesn't remember any of her dreams like 1 every few months.

I bet she remembers more than she can recall...lol does that sound wrong? I mean, if I don't remember to remind myself that I remembered the dream, I usually forget I even had one...then 3 months later some random thing will trigger a teeny tiny piece of it. But i'm just saying what you already know heh.

      Unhappy

I told one of my friends about LD and she looked at me funny and said "okay, why would you want to do that?" She was so obviously uncomfortable with the idea. It makes me sad that people are like that. I explained to her that it was completely harmless and very very interesting. She didn't say anything else.

A lot of people I've talked to think its really cool but are convinced they could never learn to do that. They think I am just good at weird stuff like that, bummer. I don't know about you guys but when I experience something really interesting or profound, I really want to share it with everybody. I want them to have it as well, you know. Ugh, people and their preconceived ideas

My friends are very dismissive about the idea and are not open to it, except one but he seems asthough he can't be bothered doing it, my sister got interested but then lost interest, my brother doesn't like it because he doesn't like me knowing anything, he thinks i shouldn't be knowledged, my parents are very dismissive also, they just think it to be some sort of weird thing. Shame that they are missing out i suppose...

Where to start? Parents feel as though its a waste of time: "You need to get in the real world!" My little brother thinks im crazy, and loves to make fun of me for writing down my dreams in my "Dream Diary" as he says, condescendingly.

In reference to the girl in your first paragraph, I find that people who refuse to do something just because it is strange or perhaps socially weird--disgust me. It's much like people who are extremely ignorant, yet someone still feel they are correct in their ways of thinking.

Well, after putting myself out on a limb and talking freely about LDing to my friends, they have steadily come around to admiring the ability. My father seems mildly interested, but otherwise he doesn't seem to care much(though he likes the idea of EP's). My mother is super supportive, as she is with everything I do. My bro was interested, and probably still is, but I don't think he has ever gone beyond that (like trying to learn techniques on how to do it). My fiance seems to enjoy it as well, probably because it makes me happy (which makes her happy).

Nobody I know seems to be interested in it, no matter how hard I try to show them how it works. They just end up saying, "wow you're really into this dream stuff."

You should just type your dreams into a text file, put a password and hide it well.
