What do your friends/family think about it?

Most of us care what other people think what we are doing no matter if we say we don't give a crap about what other people think. I know this, because my subconscious makes me nervous if I have to go do something that's in public. Possibly a social anxiety disorder.

Anyways... Have you tried getting your friends around into dreaming like you are? Does your family know? What do your friends/family think about it? Do you think it can be discouraging if they think it's silly?

I'll start off by saying my family doesn't know and I'm sure they would think I'm half crazy. I told my cousin about it and he laughed and said I was a dumb f***. My friends take no interest in it. They will listen to me, but all I get from them is "when will he shut up".

My brother does it, in fact he was the one who told me about it. My mom will listen to me talk about it, but doesn't LD. My dad knows about it but I don't think he does it. Some of my friends are interested, some not, and one I know is a natural.

I have friends that believe me and have tried it a few times, but only one has tried to get up to my level. But on the plus side, we spend mornings talking about our dreams openly and... well almost, without odd stares [I can't help it if my teachers over hear these odd dreams].

My family on the other hand doesn't see the point. I have yet to tell any family members outside of my house hold but I'm sure those in the Philippines would go with it happily, they're all superstitious and traditional in the sense of regarding dreams at the very least.

I mostly keep to myself about it, but I think my dad is starting to wonder why I laugh so much when he tells me about dreams he had that he considered "weird" .

Hehe, I think if I were him I might of too... lucky me, my dad can't rmemeber his dreams and my mom only tells me her fish/food related ones [I could swear fish is the happiest thing on Earth in her book].

Some of my friends look at me funny when I laugh too, I once laughed at a friend for telling me about how she murdered a blue cow and the world went red... then my English teacher just looked at us funnier than they did to me.

I'm very selective about whom I tell. Only a few friends have I ever felt could "handle the truth". They were each receptive to the idea and some even took enough interest to have at least one of their own. So at least I have them to vouch that it is a real phenomena. I do have a friend that's a fairly proficient LDer and we've talked about it a few sparse times.

In all, I've taught LDing to three friends over the years.

I told one of my brothers once and he said that he's "known he was dreaming before" but didn't show much interest beyond it having been a curiosity that once occurred to him. None of my other family knows about it. Well, I did mention its possibility to my Grandparents once to see if they'd take an interest. They didn't seem too impressed so I never brought it up again.

I've also mentioned to my roommate before that it's possible. He also took a somewhat disinterested stance so I let it lay.

Oh, you get pre-cognitive dreams too? Adam?!? Yay! I don't feel so alone in the world [I mean, I know that they're probably a lot of people on DV who have them too, it's just nice when someone you know admits to it too ]

As for those dreams, I've only told my best friend and my parents. I've tried to tell my real dad before but he just always forgets [probably doesn't care so he doesn't really listen]

My grandma is quite into it, ly mum couldn't care less, my sister doesn't believe in lucid dreams as a direct result of all sorts of cazy spiritual stuff my dad attatches to it, which sounds a lot more absurd than anything ever written here

Friends also couldn't care less.

A friend of mine is taking some pills for weight training which has B6 in it. He is reporting all these trippy dreams I keep wanting to tell him about LDs but worried he will think I am a weirdo

I remembered you mentioned those, what type are they exactly? I figure I can cheat and use B6 if it helps me with weight training.

I've only told a few people, and no one thinks I'm crazy, but I also don't think they quite "get" it. I sometimes get "Oh yeah... I have dreams where I can fly too!"

No one really seems to understand how real these dreams can get, and how exhilerating the entire experience can be.

I have precognitive dreams too. They are slight ones though. Just people I meet when I wake up the next day. I assume I had one mmm... 2 nights ago. I dreamed about this girl I know we don't talk much anymore or see each other much since I'm out of school and she isn't. She came up to me the next day and punched me in the arm out of the blue.

Before I dreamed about her I seen a photo of her at her best friend's house. Photo then sleep = next day = a meeting with her. Precognitive or coincidence right after it happened I thought of the dream I had.

yeah my mum thinks that people who are 'posting' their dreams and lucid experiences on the net are just looking for attention lol but i take no notice (shes very close minded) my mate who studies physcology has heard of lucid dreaming but never put it to the test, we often discuss our dreams jus 4 the fun of it. But i understand where your coming from, many people don't like to open to the possiblity of much...but thats their loss...

Hehe, some of my friends 'get' it but 'don't get it' if that makes sense. They get the concept and have experienced it but never toyed with it or been exposed to it's more abstract and surrealistic potentials.

As for more on pre-cognitive dreams. It'd be cool to do a group, but my issue is I'm lazy at writing down short things since mine usually come like HI when I sift between dreams [though when I try to place the order back into the right place, it's always so hard because it seems like it could have been before or after stuff].

I found another funny thing about them in the past few years too. Sometimes my pre-cognitives aren't 100% on the spot, some words are different from RL experience when it happens and I'm like "Wait... WT*, wasn't 'that' supposed to be 'this'" or some minor edit. The context is still the same though, I've noticed that with a couple of 1 month later pre-cognitives it's just strange

The other day my friend came up to me and said "dude I had this cool dream last night... it was like I knew I was dreaming or something."
I got to explain it all to him... but he probably woudn't have believed me if I had told him before it happened to him.

I get a bit of a variation.

My little sister entirely believes it, I got her into it.

One of my friends looks like he wants to smack me whenever I talk about it, he thinks I'm and idiot for it. Another friend I have completely believes and is trying to do it, though apparently without much success.

I started to explain to my dad once, and he looked at me like I was a purple Leprechaun with two heads playing a bass guitar. I just stopped and changed the subject, since it was a lost cause.

Yeah no one likes rejection. And people who are close minded seem to deprive themselves from good times.

I grew up being teased, made fun of, and being made out as the bad guy in almost all the situations in my life. This made what I am today. Lonely, Temperate (not temper-mental), Shy, Timid, Afraid. This is who I have become to my family like I have a front always up.

This might sound like a cop-out, but I feel like I have a slight to mild social anxiety disorder, because of the way I was raised. I broke down a couple of months ago and told my grandma how I felt after coming home from Trying to take an ACT test (I left because my nerves got to me). I told her everything I have said here and she apologized and told me not to worry. This has helped a slight bit, but it's still in my head.

Now to my friends I'm the total opposite, because I know I can say just about anything I want to them without having them scowl at me every time I try expressing myself even if it is "out there".

Anyways, my point is that no matter if your friends, parents, siblings or whoever for that matter rejects you for being who you are or for the things you like to do (in this case lucid dreaming). Thank God for DreamViews. Here people know that they can talk about anything (most likely anything) without being judged as a kook for it.

I made one of my friends watch Waking Life and explained lucid dreams. He seems interested, but unmotivated. He told his girlfriend, who also became interested. She dreamt she was visiting me at my place for some reason. My girlfriend knows as well, and she started keeping a dream journal. It's awesome how we tell eachother our dreams and then try to interpret them.

I don't tell my family anything. They're narrowminded.
How I discover what my dreams are about

In my last lucid dream I made pink sparks between my palms. I was trying to make a white ball of energy...
