Your point of view, in and out

I have been thinking lately about a popular subject in most dreaming forums, the point of view you adopt while dreaming. Are you experiencing the dream from the first person perspective, from a top view or maybe even as a spectator.

This in itself is intriguing. But then, I think there is a certain point on which I didn't see lots of discussion. This is normal since this is some sort of side-topic to dreaming, and there probably isn't a lot to discuss about in the first place, after defining one-self.

The topic, is your point of view, not while dreaming, but wide awake. Ive started to think about that after I read a thread about in-dream PoV. You see, in dreams, I personally have most of the time a spectator view of the things or very often anyway. Thats why I noticed that whenever im talking to someone while im awake, I view myself as I would in my dreams, in some sort of spectator view.

This enable me to be very aware of how I look, as such, I have an image of my own face whenever im having a discussion. If I don't pay attention, ill do it anyway. Ive talked about this to a few people in my surrounding acquaintances, but nobody actually experience that, so I turn to you.

To wrap this all up, im basically taking things one step further when I dream by completely becoming a spectator.

I alternate between first person and spectator. Generally the spectator dreams consists of dreamings involving movies or video games. It's almost as if I'm playing or watching the character whom I relate to be myself.

While awake I also often have a spectator view, like yourself.

I normally just have a first person view on things in both reality/dreams but occasionally Ill get the ones where i have an above/semi above view of the actions being performed in the dream

It usually depends on the dream. Half the time I am unable to tell for some odd reason.

I think it also has to do with dream recall. I think when you remember a dream you mind puts you as a spectator because that is the only way it makes sense. Its like your brain knows that it was not these eyes that saw so it assumes it was watching it all happen. like a movie

I'm very much always in my own head (extreme introvert with no social ties), so naturally, that's where I am usually in my dreams. Even in dreams where I don't actively participate in things, I see it from my own POV, just like in real life where even if I'm only a spectator, I see events through my own eyes.

My own POV can shift throughout a dream, though...still always my POV, but from other characters. I sometimes call this "roleplaying"--I basically become a different character in my dream, though I still have my own thoughts and reactions; I just play the part like I'm acting in a role, and often the others around me will view me as this other character and not myself. Sometimes I shift between two or more people...just last night I was myself, then I was one of my characters, then I was apparently both him and a child at the same time (though of course I could only see from one character's eyes at a time). Then some other times I seem to "direct" what other characters apart from me will say or do. This has nothing to do with lucidity of any sort, it's just "normal" in the dream.
