      The dream book

      Greetings!

As stated in my introduction thread, I am a writer from Sweden that has been experimenting with lucid dreaming for about half a year.
In my intro thread, it was mentioned that there had been discussions about writing a compilation book with dream stories, excepts from peoples dream journals, dream pictures, tutorials for lucid dreaming and everything related.
I would be most interested in designing and publishing such a book, if people are interested in contributing.

It could for example feature different themes (flying dreams, sex dreams, shapeshifting, other worlds, speaking with old friends etc) and the contributions could be either via usernames, real names or anonymous, depending on the wishes of the individual contributor.

I have an online bookstore at:
http://lwb.webeden.co.uk/ (note that it is still under construction)
And would love to sell it from there, as well as do the marketing (even if it obviously is intended for members of this forum firsthand).

It would be sold on a non-profit basis i.e. it only costs as much to buy as it costs to produce, plus eventual shipping. It would also be downloadable for free.
The only thing I would ask for is a small commission for keeping the book on my site and doing the marketing, say a symbolic sum of one dollar for every tenth book sold (this would be taken into the price).

What do you guys think? Anyone interested in participating? Please tell me any suggestions you might have!

We already have a project like this started in the Education Forum:
      http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=59

It has been dead for a few months. Lets see what we can do about bringing it back to life.

I like your outline for the book much better than what has been discussed before. Lets put more focus on the dreams. They are the most fun to read, and most inspiring. Maybe we could put some basic lucid dreaming induction information in an index towards the back of the book. This would make it much easier to put together. We just need submissions from peoples dream journals, and a little editing.

As you say, I think it would be more interesting to focus on the dreams and leave the tutorials in the back.
In fact, I don´t think people would benefit from lucid dream tutorials in book form, better to leave links to this and other relevant websites, so the interested can look things up for themselves.
As already stated, I would be most delighted to edit the book and publish it. I mean, people already have written dreamjournals, artwork and tutorials done, so all there really is to do is for people to send in their favorite dreams and such.
That said, I would love to revive that forum to make organizing it easier.

A book of around hundred pages would cost maybe around 5-7 dollars (+ shipping), and I think a trial one could be in order.
If it gets suceesful, we can make a bigger follow-up.
Any particular dream theme you forumites would like to see?

You know, no matter how much I like the idea of developing a book with the community, I am afraid I don't have time for it. I will be glad to monitor it and support with whatever's quick and clean, but I don't have any time for writing/compiling/planning/etc.

So if you want to substitute me as project leader, feel free. But I warn you - it was hard to find even a single other contributor when the project was up.

Drop me a PM if you need anything - I'm not too regular on this site lately.

I will gladly edit and do everything else myself, so all people have to do is to share their best stories from their journal.
I have gotten some Pm messages, so the project is coming along kind of nicely.
People, send more in (and vote for themes you wanna see in the book)!

Are people already sending you their dreams? I'm way out of the loop. I have a crapload I could give you. Some of them even have illustrations.

Lets get a thread going where people can submit dreams publicly.

The Dream Gallery forum would also be a good place to look around. Maybe PM some people to ask if we can use their dreams posted, there.

Hehe, I actually meant to Pm you about this, since you were in the initial discussion we had about this book.
Yes, people have already sent some stuff in. I do hope that you will do so too
I will check the stuff out you mentioned, thanks!

      Bump
(as people still send stuff in to this I think a bump is valid)

What kind of categories have you collected so far? I have a lot of great dreams to fill in any holes.

You can use anything in my dream journal. I've got a dream for every occasion if you use the search in the DJ section along with my username, or if you're looking for something let me know.

Since you have knowledge in this area, how much would it cost to get a single print of my DJ in book form?

How much would it cost with some illustrations, also? I was considering doing the same thing, Cusp

Can you make an estimate on how long the DJ would be if you put it all tohether in an A5 format? (that is what I use)

Depends on if the art is in colour or not. Non colour hardly ups the cost unless you have more than 20 of them. If you have many pieces in colour I´d recommend doing a seperate book for them.
It´s a bit hard to make an estimate out of the blue witout seeing the pictures though

Wow, that's really hard to say. How about an estimate per 100 pages? Like a 100 page book, 200 page book. I think up to 500 pages should cover most dream journals.

Okay, here is the prizes for the book, not including shipping:
      100 pages=5.30 dollars
      200 pages=7.10 dollars
      300 pages= 8.90 dollars
      400 pages= 10.70 dollars
      500 pages= 12.50 dollars
      600 pages = 14.30 dollars
      700 pages = 16.10 dollars
If you want me to produce and send a book for you, I can do that. Just remember that there may be some additional costs to produce just one sample.

To me, leaving the tutorials in the back is a bad idea. Sure, people would like to read the different dreams and aspects about Lucid Dreaming, but not if that is the bulk of the book. You should have the tutorials mixed in between the different themes. How are people going to know how to fly and shapeshift if they don't know how to have a Lucid Dream first?

Wow, that's cheap!!! It would be criminal not to get a book made. I'd better start putting everything together.

Perhaps you are right. Then again, the book is intended for people of this site firsthand, and they can just find dream tutorials here easily.
Speaking about them, do you all think the people that wrote the various turorials be interested in them appearing in the book? On the main site, who has written the introduction there? Who is the owner of this site?
